I got this back from the NRC.. Hi Woody, The Advisory Council is going to review the comments at its upcoming meeting on January 14th. For that reason all of the comments as of yesterday or maybe a couple of days ago were posted along with the advisory council’s agenda. They may be accessed at the following web addresses: www.in.gov/nrc/files/nrc_docket_comments.pdf www.in.gov/nrc/files/mailed_comments.pdfAnyone that wants to can do a count of yeas and nays. There will be some "yeas" with caveats such as "certain calibers", "number of shells that can be loaded" and "north/south/county locations". I always separated them out.. Looking forward to you all's analysis..

That's a lotta comments! Just a (very unscientific) cursory scanning of the 300+ pages indicates that a good majority favor passage of the proposal.
I did notice one concern re. using a .50 cal BMG- do those come with 30 round mags?

Good grief ... what is so hard about saying a simple "yes" or "no". Some of the mailed comments are loooooong winded.

Good grief ... what is so hard about saying a simple "yes" or "no". Some of the mailed comments are loooooong winded. I told you there was some "interesting" comments. Actually, if one believes it, this is not supposed to be a simple "yes or no vote". They want input with reasons attached. Yes, sorting through them is tedious at best.. Good luck.... .

Both "pros" & "cons" give valid reasons for their views on allowing High Powered Rifles for Deer Hunting in Indiana. What I've read on the "con" views is they are concerned about safety, with the Human population density, in most counties. The "Pros" also bring out good points, but I really believe the State will side with the "cons" on this HPR issue.

Mailed input is heavily against .... but that file is 38 pages long vs the over 300 of electronic feedback.

I saw more comments from out of state hunters than from my county or the 2 surrounding counties.

After reading through the first 300+ e-mails I CAN'T believe the number of people that foolishly think that HPRs will allow for more humane-ethical..less wounded deer. IF people are having such a problem wounding deer.. MAYBE just MAYBE they should head to the gun range instead of the woods and learn their maximum range before shooting at a deer..just sayin'....

I would think that those using postal service would only make one comment. Or could mean techies for; Luddites against.

A .270 put in a bad place isnt any more deadly than a 12g slug in a bad place. A .270 through the heart/lungs wont kill any better than a 12g through the heart/lungs.

Shouldernuke, you very well might be correct concerning some "anti-Hunting" groups writing in voicing their opposition to HPR. Indiana is full of those type folks. BUT, I am also reading posts & letters from HUNTERS that are against the legalization of HPR in Indiana. Also, I am wondering how land owners, that own cattle, how they will respond to the use of HPR for use in hunting Deer; not to mention areas where there are subdivisions and urban sprawl going on. Also, wonder how this will affect property owner's liability insurance rates if someone gets shot accidentally and sues the other hunter and/or the property owner (?) I foresee many hunting properties being off limits for HPR in Indiana when hunting Deer, or even closed. Some property owners will not want to deal with this issue, and close their property to hunting. Just too risky.

So the right thing to do is to arm these poor-shot fellas with a HPR? Dead is dead, but staying within an effective range of your weapon and your ability is KEY no matter what!!
