So for me this hunting year has come to a close, although I know there is archery still going on. My question(s) are:
1. When do you put out your camera? 2. Where you decide to put your camera do deer consistently follow the same route all year long?
I know that question 2 can be answered by moving your camera, however to me it seems that the deer are on again off again in that particular area. Any thoughts?
Thanks and god bless.

My cameras have been in the field since April '13. Yeah it does get slow but at the same time it's always nice to know what's moving year round.

As growth in winter slows the deer here return to following the creek on our property (they go to crop fields in Sept-December). I just got two cameras out January 12. Last year plain white salt blocks and corn worked for pictures until I had to cleanup for bow season in September. My game camera gets me fired up for next year.

I put out a camera baited with corn on August 1 each year for inventory purposes and pull it mid-September. I usually put it back out in January to see what survived the season, but have not yet done so this year.

I have some cams that stay up year round...but I usually scale back and only have a few cams out on the properties and bring in about 70% of the others.

Tomorrow!
The cleaning lady called my wife and said that there was a "strange" looking lady wandering through the yard today, very close to the house. She knows the closest neighbor and said that it was not her. From the description, it is not any of the other neighbors either. We live in a nice, rural subdivision of 2-3 acre lots where everyone keeps to themselves. All of the neighbors also know that we have a 130 lb American Bulldog that does not appreciate others in the yard when we are not present. If we are here the only thing he will do is aggravate someone to death for attention. When we are gone, he is at attention and on guard! I have been keeping him in for the last few weeks due to the weather.
I know just where to mount the camera so that it will not be seen. I am also going to leave the dog out for a few days. We are having a bit of a warm spell and he will appreciate some time to run.

I've got one in my yard right now due to my heroin-fueled neighbors. LOL!

I put mine out now, along with minerals... well I won't at one farm where I had a couple stolen.. ironically the next check after the landowner got a letter about leasing the entire farm.. hm... not a hard one to figure out there...
even though I use the 60-80 dollar cameras I still can't afford them stolen. Sucks people call themselves hunters but they are just lowly thieves

I run 9 cameras and always have at least a couple going year round. Near the end of August I have them all going up until the ticks come out in the early spring and then I pull most during the hottest part of summer.

I am going to take mine down today. By now I have a decent idea of which bucks survived and that is the only real reason I keep them out this late in the season. I will put them back out around April 1st in the attempt to scout turkeys. Once turkey season is in I will move them to my new hunting ground to begin scouting for deer season.

Checked cameras today, pulled cards, and replaced batteries. I've got 80 short videos to watch and over 800 pics to sort through. It's been 17 days since I checked anything. One decent 8 on video and two up and comers that made it through deer season on stills!

I put a stealth cam out in June. We had triplets around the house this year and I wanted to get some pics. I left it for about a month and when I checked it was full of ants and their eggs. I tried cleaning it out, no good it was ruined.

I figured I would let you all know that I put up my camera around january 30 and then about 20 days later I picked it up and checked the pictures. A lot of squirrell activity and a bird or 2 except for one morning it started around 5:20 a.m. and continued on for about a half hour. I had a total of 5 bucks come in front of my camera, my jaw dropped. Alone the numbers themselves would of been amazing being that the area I hunt the neighbors bring in about 500,000 friends to hunt and openeing day sounds like a war zone.
But after looking closely I found 2 "bullwinkle's" on camera. 1 of them is a 10 point and the other one which I think has a larger span and definately higher tines is an 8 pt. His rack is easily 6+ inches wider than his body is, and rough guess probably in the neighborhood of a foot tall.
I don't see many buck where I hunt at being they are usually killed off, but definately the 2 biggest bucks I have ever seen.
