Given that I've already got a smart phone and an iPad, it seems totally pointless to buy yet another tablet device just to view trail camera pictures. But I've looked into the SD card reader cables for the iPad and they get bad reviews and are ridiculously priced ($30 for the Apple brand one).
Does anybody have a recommendation for a relatively inexpensive option? I'll admit to having dragged a laptop into the field on more than one occasion last season just because I was too impatient to wait until I got back to the car to see what had come by over the last while...and I really don't want to do that again this year.

If you have a digital camera, put sd card in there for viewing.

X2 on the digital camera. Or, just bring an extra SD card, swap 'em out, and view your pics on the laptop back home.

Portable dvd player that has an sd port. I have one that no longer plays dvd's, but still works with the sd cards just fine. Rechargable battery, too.

I'll have to try the digital camera approach. Mine's a pretty small one, and I was afraid I wouldn't be able to see enough, but it's worth trying. Also will keep my eyes open for a DVD player like that - seems like a good solution.

I have a little laptop/notebook that I always take with me. I keep 2 cards for each camera, look at the pics, save the ones I want to keep on the laptop, delete off the card and its ready to swap out the next trip.

^^^^^ THIS. On a few occasion's I will take my digital camara and view on the spot, but normally swap out cards and view on lap top at home.

I'm with these guys! I've always been one to take a digital camera out there and get a quick look. I normally have a spare SD card that I swap out when I check them but every now and then if there arent many pictures I'll just look at them on the digital camera and plug it back in and be on my merry way!

I've got a card reader that reads regular sized cards as well as micro cards. I just go out remove the card and plug it into my S4 active and then move the photo's over to it. Find some good pics then text them to my buddies so they can drool and want to know where the site is. Been working great for me so far.
