Since yesterday, after removing earplugs from working in a boiler room, its been a crazy bout with ringing, cleaning, testing, etc...just trying to get back to normal hearing. Danged amazing how something that seems so simple can mess with my head. So far, we're just hoping it's a wax buildup issue.

I have had tinnitus for years and years. Not pleasant at all. Hopefully yours is just temporary. In extremely noisy areas, especially for extended periods of time, double protection might be in order. Plugs and muffs ..
Good luck .. And let us know how you make out...

For those with hearing loss as well as the ringing the newest hearing aids have built in canceling that, according to one guy I talked to, are amazing at helping with the ringing. Not cheap of course.....his cost $5k.
Like most things, hearing aids have come a long way with the help of today's technology.

you get used to the ringing. I only notice it when I think about it....then it can become a roar in both ears :/

Mine are a little over 2 years old and cost $1600 each. They help but they do not cancel out the ringing. The worse time is in bed at night when everything Gelee is quiet..

His had a lanyard worn around his neck with a Bluetooth receiver he could sync with his cell phone or a module that plugged into his TV. They also had different settings for different situations where they only picked up sounds from certain directions while canceling out sounds from other directions.....he actually helped design the technology for them.
Really neat....trying to talk dad into getting a pair as the guy said the VA should pick up most the cost.

I know very well about ringing in one or both ears. I've had tinnitus, in my left ear, since I can remember. In fact it's ringing right as I am typing this post!! However, I grew used to it and it's only noticeable to me in a quite room. This left ear tinnitus was very annoying, when I was growing-up, to the point that I couldn't tolerate being around my Dad or Granddad when they shot their shotguns while hunting for Squirrels or Rabbits. I use to place cotton in my ears, when I went hunting with them, as the shotgun muzzle blast was very uncomfortable for me, and it almost prevented me from Hunting or target shooting. However this ear ringing has been with me most of my life and I am use to it. Now though, I am losing my hearing in my left ear since getting older. My right ear is fine though. Sometimes ear ringing can be caused by certain medications so one should check with their Doctor if they have this ear ringing (Tinnitus).

I, like many others, have had this condition for a few years now. Continual, high-pitched tone. Noise definitely aggravates, and my left ear is much more sound sensitive than before the tinnitus.
We always keep a fan going at night. This seems to keep it from being so noticeable.
Doc says that, basically, when ya get it, ya got it!
So, get in a good habit of protecting your hearing early on!

So after not hearing out of my right ear for most of the day, I cleaned both ears with the Walmart version of Debrox and things got better but still ringing. Wake up this morning and right ear is clear but mostly "deaf" in the left ear. May just have to break down and go to the Doc. I have always taken care of my ears and eyes safety wise. But this is getting pretty aggravating. On top of that, like discussion here with y'all in the past (Woody, featherduster, etc.) I've become a bit more educated on hearing aids and would rather not go there if I can help it!

You leave there feeling like a new person The nose, ear and throat specialist I went to had a little vacuum that he used.. It sure tickled, but got the job done without the water/peroxide flushing.. My hearing aids do have four programs in them. #1 is for normal conversation, #2 and #3 is for noisy background environments like restaurants. #4 is for speakers, like at church.. The only way to mask tinnitus is to overcome it with some sort of "white noise".

And double paid ... you are not only paying for the costs associated with the medical field you are paying the salaries of a few govt workers to sit in the middle of the doctors and the patients.

It's been an interesting journey for a few days. I'll post this information mainly for anybody who might have an experience similar to mine. First off, I hate going to the Doctor. Not for fear of what they might find, but with high deduct these days I just don't want to spend the money if I can help it. Hence my process here of trying to irrigate ears myself at home. The problem is, I can't see in my ears. Then my wife reminded me that Sam's Club offers free hearing tests. So I went in and the first thing they did was take a pic and the gal showed me on the screen that even though I was thinking the ringing was coming from my right ear, the ringing was actually in my head. The left ear was totally compacted. This was very helpful, being able to "see" what was going on. So I went home and cleaned the left ear and the ringing subsided greatly. I thought fantastic. Now I am out of the woods. Only to wake up the next morning, virtually deaf in my left ear. Knowing I had issues from the camera I wasn't too worried and spent some more time with the Debrox and cleaning. I won't show a pic, but the gunk that finally came out was about the equivalent of 2 pencil erasers. Some final flushing and WOW, the feeling was amazing. So, yesterday I went back to have another look at Sam's Club in Greenwood and the photos of both ears were totally clean. She explained that the eardrum looked fine. She could see the hammer and the "cone of light" that they look for and all is well. And it was all free. I did an audio test and both ears came out with a chart that showed 98% as "air conduction, AL" which basically means my hearing is great except for the very highest frequency which is normal for someone my age. FWIW, here is a bit of a grainy pic of the right ear canal, eardrum, hammer and cone of light:

Greetings Well I understood all your comments but I think the health service here is ok. Yes we pay up front, but no daft unexpected bills. It suits me, especially as one gets older and needs attention more. I don't understand your system, but there we go. I pay private for my dentist, because I choose to, he is a good one he doesn't hurt me, lol. Regards Billy
