I was deer hunting In North Dakota and watched a young whitetail buck pick up a leg bone of a dead deer and chew on it..
While we were bear hunting in Idaho a buddy of mine watched a mule deer doe come into the bait pile and consume several sticks of old Salami.. She might have ate more, but as soon as a bear appeared she left poste' haste..
I've heard of deer eating dead fish on the bank if a river..
Yep, deer will eat meat if given the chance

Sure gives a new perspective on how CWD is potentially transmitted in the wild even where baiting is outlawed and not a deer farm in sight.

Although it is kind of interesting that pseudo ruminants with hindguts such as horses and rabbits are not susceptible to any kind of wasting disease.

It is interesting that Rabbits and other monogastric animals aren't susceptible to Chronic Wasting Disease like Deer are. However Humans can contract Creutzfeldt–Jakob disease, which is similar to CWD.
