Just curious on thoughts toward this ammo. I was given a box of #4's so I decided to pattern it. The wind was so crazy it took me 3 tries to get a target to stay. That was at 40 yards. I've never shot a turkey with #4's but I kind of like the idea of a little more oomph! I'll try another day to pattern out to 50+ yards. But with 14 pellets to the vital area, I'm pretty impressed with this turkey load!

I've heard good reports on them. I think GS1 can probably shed some light on them...

Very cool! I guess I missed that recent post! I may just have to try a pattern shot at 70 yards and see how it measures up to the "board."

Might try a more open choke.

I'd try them, if I didn't have 4 boxes of Hevi 13s in the drawer. If 4s pattern that good @ 40, wonder what 5s in a 3 1/2" would do @ 50 ? What choke are you using?

Similar to you, I have 7 HeviShot Magnum Blends, 3" left from last year. I know what they will do, having busted a couple of fine gobblers in the past at 55 and 63 yards with the HeviShot. These, as with the pattern from yesterday are all with my 2001 Mossberg 500A with the factory .670 XX turkey choke. I'm just having some fun entertaining the idea of working the bird in a little closer like I used to do and using the #4's since I've never taken a gobbler with them.

I'll stick with my Hevi shot. I know what they'll do, besides my old shoulder doesn't like trying those 3 1/2 inchers. Thanks for the kind offer just the same.

I love the longbeard XR's They are solid patterns to 50+ yds in my 87- with Indian Creek choke tube.

I am very impressed with this load. Shot out of my 870 Indian Creek choke tube. 3inch, #5s Lasered distances. Winchester supremes are great rounds, but they don't pattern like this! 20yds 51yds 71yds -- SEVENTY ONE YARDS!!!

That is pretty impressive. 70 is just a bit far it looks like; 50 is excellent - wonder what 60yds looks like - sort of sounds crazy just talking about those distances!

I should clarify, I am ONLY shooting paper at 70yds. Way too far to shoot a bird IMO with the patterning I have personally completed. Just wanted to see how well it patterned at that distance. That is pretty impressive. 70 is just a bit far it looks like; 50 is excellent - wonder what 60yds looks like - sort of sounds crazy just talking about those distances!

Love the Longbeard XR's. I use the 3" 5 shot. I shot 3 turkeys last year in Nebraska, Kansas and Indiana. Anywhere from 20 yards to 50 yards. One shot and flopped over dead. I was using the Winchester Ext Range before that. Which I loved, but were so expensive. Really like the price of the XR's.

I killed 5 birds with the 3.5 inch LB XR # 5s last year between Kansas, Nebraska and Indiana and watched another 3 get killed with 3" # 5s that my buddy shot. Farthest shot was 56 yds and he dumped his bird in its tracks shooting the 3" # 5s. I did make a 50 yd shot on the same day and killed a bird in Nebraska. I really enjoy getting them close and killing them but these shells definitely increased my comfort factor for taking a longer shot. Only downside I can see is the extremely tight pattern you get inside 20yds.

In 22 years of hunting turkeys.. I've never had to take a shot past 30 yards...many were killed with cheap Remington Nitro's I purchased at Wal- Mart for $9.99 a box..every turkey I shot was stone dead afterwards.

I have an Indian Creek choke tube and it does not like those rounds. (It's actually pretty picky with any round) I have heard nothing but outstanding reviews on them and from what I have seen on buddies targets and their success in the field, you'll love them!

Just to clarify, I have never actually shot them through the Indian Creek choke tube, Winchester told me they are not compatible. Hornady told me the same thing about their Heavy Magnum Turkey rounds. The Remington Nitro on the other hand makes a great pattern with my set up.

So far I like the XR's. I shoot 3 1/2 # 5's out of my Versa Max with a .680 XX Full Turkey Comp-N-Choke. Patterned pretty dang good out to 60 yards.
