How difficult is it to do? Can't seem to find anyone down here that either has time or the want to do it. I've tried the saddle mounts and all I tried stick up about 1/2 inch above receiver. It's for a 20ga. 870.

It's for a 20ga. 870. It is not all that difficult BUT.. if you are doing it to make a deer gun out of it a receiver mounted scope on an 870 has a hard time keeping zero. It is not the scope but the barrel that will move ..sometimes with just a little bump. Probably not too big a deal for a scatter gun for turkeys but it can be a big time problem for a slug for deer. IF this is for deer, dig deep and buy a cantilever rifled barrel. The only way to fly with an 870.. .

My Browning Gold 20 gauge came with such a barrel, which I have used only one season, in Indiana. Since I moved down here in KY I use my .308 for Deer. Now my Browning Gold just sits in my Gun Cabinet, as I haven used it since moving here. Also has a regular shotgun barrel, which includes numerous screw-in chokes.

Okay I should have been more clear. Its for turkey. I'm switching to a 20 this year for something different. I use the saddle mounts on all my 12ga turkey guns and they fit fine but all the 20ga ones seem to just be a 12 shrunk down. All of them sit high enough that you can still see your beads on the barrel. I don't know if this is by design but they don't sit that high on the ones for my 12.

I would imagine they make one size for a 12 gauge frame, and another size for a smaller 20 gauge frame.

I see this commonly on turkey guns and really don't understand the need for a scope? We shoot flying waterfowl, upland birds and running rabbits with vent ribs and beads.
At most turkeys are walking. Why a scope?
Disclaimer - I'm not a turkey hunter, but may give it a try this year.

Woody, that's nice. Wish I would have found that earlier. Found a guy in Paoli to do the tapping.

Depending on the setup at 10 to 20 yards you will be punching a hole through the target about the size of a baseball, some smaller. With these setups it is very easy to miss at those ranges. You want to put as many pellets in a small as area as possible as with rabbits, birds you just want an uniform pattern.

Shane ,
I'd still do the cantilever bit. You might want to use it for deer someday.
Right on with the baseball size pattern close in. My turkey gun has been scoped for a long , long time and knock on wood I've never missed or woundeda bird yet..

Every gun I have is set up for a specific purpose. This one will never be used for anything but turkey. I really hate sighting guns in so a long time ago I decided specific purpose was the way to go. I have several slug guns and muzzleloaders for deer. Couple of turkey guns. Take them out once a year couple of rounds to verify and I'm done. Heck I even have specific rabbit and goose and duck guns.

I now run a scope on mine for the reasons above; I was OK with a set of Firesights for a good while, but unfortunately they are not clear anymore.
