I'm seeing a lot of crap now about how the HIV outbreak is the state's fault because we don't have enough free testing. Horse Puckey---you can get tested at any Doctor's office. It's not the state's fault you can't pay for it or--most critically-- that you stuck dirty needles in your arm. Since when did everything have to be free, anyway?
1. Don't engage in risky behavior. 2. If you do, maybe you ought to take the responsibility to get tested. ( maybe get a frickin' job to pay for it) We always want to blame everybody but ourselves or the person responsible.
What a bunch of liberal BS.

I agree, it's ridiculous for the government to have to step in and set up a needle exchange program on the taxpayers dime. Seems like this is helping junkies to abuse drugs.

Sounds like more liberal Democrat B.S. to me. Solution to the H.I.V. problem is to arrest drug addicts and their drug source, and treat them, to rid their addiction.

Or just legalize and regulate the drugs .... but we dont need to have that conversation.
I did have an interesting conversation about this over the past weekend while consuming cold beverages and watching college basketball. A friend of mine is a recovering addict, been clean for 10 years, and he brought up the subject. When talking of needles I told him I dont see the problem considering a person can walk into any Indiana WalMart (that has a pharmacy) and buy 100 insulin syringes for $12. He told me the users were paranoid of being on "the list" and would rather take the risk than actually buy them.
With a mindset like that I dont think any availability of testing will help .....

I really think that legalizing, what is now illegal drugs, is a very bad idea, swilk. Actually, prescribed meds that are Scheduled drugs such as pain killers, are becoming more of a problem.

Like I said ... we dont need to have that conversation. It is unlikely either of our opinions will change.

The VA is one of the biggest drug dealers in the country, and that is just lately been in the news.

One of these days, I'd sure like to hear your secret story. As far as the subject goes, I'm a bit surprised that we don't hear more about HIV.

you play you pay...nobody is to blame but the individual who stuck himself with a needle..you're sick with aids...no sympathy here....INDIVIDUAL ACCOUNTABILITY...It's not a consequence of our Society, it's that people are not taught personal responsibility and accountability these days...it's always Society's fault according to the Liberal World we live in these days....BS...You're responsible for what YOU....Do...no one else..you make choices...and you have to live, or die, with those choices..the end.

Junkies richly deserve the effects of their own stupidity, nobody forced you to jab that needle into your arm. Good riddance, I say.

While personal accountability is great and all, one must also be aware that providing clean needles is a very small cost that helps protect those who are responsible but must be in contact with these infected people such as healthcare workers and emergency services. Obviously if the risk of HIV and death doesn't stop someone from shooting up, then forcing them to use dirty needles isn't going to do much but increase the risk of spreading it around the general population. HIV isn't something that kills someone immediately ya know, so they get to be alive for many years, continuing to spread the virus around in the meantime to those who are innocent and unaware.
Many of these types also donate plasma and blood on a routine basis to get cash... so yeah.....

Fascinating .... two sides of the same coin on this very site.
In this thread we have "Junkies deserved it and got what was coming to them" and a different thread where we cannot believe how folks could say things like "he got what he deserved" when a hunter is killed by an elephant.

It's black socks and sneakers.
Also, I think sometimes we just say things without thinking much about it. If we had a family member in this situation, we might think differently. A lot of emotions towards issues are relative to our experiences.
...then there is the internet personality; however, I'm not thinking the guys on this site suffer much from this.

Here in Kentucky, our "Stupid" Democrat Governor, got a bill through that makes ALL INDIVIDUALS who are taking some controlled or scheduled medication must make two extra visits to their Doctors. They also must submit to a drug screening test (urine test) which does nothing to stop drug misuse. The only thing this particular bill is doing is costing Senior Citizens, who have taken scheduled medication for years, more money they can't afford on two useless visits to their Doctor, to obtain a three month supply of their particular medication(s). Indiana was going to adopt the same law but the last Governor said it was a stupid bill that wouldn't work. Smart Man!!
