In conversation about fishing, my grandson asked how big the bluegill should be for us to keep them. So, I thought I'd throw this poll up to get some expert advice!!!

About the size of my hand. I'm about 6'5" so that's pretty good size.

About 6 inches or bigger. I let The brutes go to live another day. Cleaned 25 today with my niece for dinner. But I have my own lake to fish.

Big ones in the bucket small ones on the the bank the rest get a free pass. I too fish my own pond. Bluegill fillets are $14.00 a pound at my local Kroger store.

Normally no less than 6 1/2 unless hooked deep and gona die. When I fish I just look at it and if I have to think about whether it is big enough to keep it goes over the side of the boat.when I look at it and know it is a keeper it goes in the live well

A lot of lakes in certain parts of America actually have size limits for Redear and Crappie. For Bluegill anything over 7 or 8 inches should provide a decent amount of meat.

Most ponds get overtaken by small gills and only gets worse over time. Kill some baby gills is great unless there is really good predator base to do that for you.

It depends. Public or private? If Private, what are the pond owners management goals?

I usually go around 6.5+" unless its a super fatty! But then some I catch over my 6.5" mark are very thin so I just kinda go from fish-to-fish as to whether is a keeper or a catch and release!
