I think it's funny how things come and go. I remember when it was a bad fashion statement to wear black socks with sneakers. Only old guys did this. It was laughable, but now the young kids think it's cool.
Even poor inner city kids had a fashion back in the day, Chuck Taylors and tube socks ...white.
I don't care much about what people think about me, but I will NOT wear black socks with sneakers. It's been ingrained in me from a kid ...I guess. Nope, nothing wrong with it, but I just won't do it.
I want to be buried wearing my camo hat; it's how everyone usually sees me, even when I worked I wore it there. I was the old guy and no one seemed to care, but I'm confident that some thought badly of it.
I wouldn't be a bit surprised if my daughter dressing me with my camo hat, but puts black socks and sneakers on me as her final joke on me.
I'm not so sure that fenced hunting isn't kind of the same thing.

I don't own a pair of white socks. All low cut black socks. I very rarely wear shoes in the summer months mostly slides. If it was warm enough I would wear flip flops deer hunting

I absolutely HATE flip flops! They are the least comfortable things I could put on my feet. Every time I've ever worn them, all I can think about when walking is trying to keep them from falling off. I need a good supportive shoe on my feet. I actually envy people who love them, I want to like them because they seem like they'd be comfy and so easy to slip on and off...but for me, they are a nightmare!

Same here. I can't wear flip flops with the strap between my big toe and my biggest toe. I have narrow flat feet, and support is a must. I did find some without the little strap and have some support, but I use them for house slippers and the beach.
Looks like a nice weekend for some flip flops.

I've never given a fig about what is in fashion, or what anyone else thinks of the way I dress, it's none of their business.

This old guy still laughs at the greenhorn whipper-snappers that wear black socks and tennis shoes.

This old guy still laughs at the greenhorn whipper-snappers that wear black socks and tennis shoes. A couple years ago in Florida, I saw an old guy out walking with black socks and sneakers, but the funny part was that his shorts were up to his sagging manboobs. I'm sure he didn't care what anyone thought. Hey, in Menards yesterday, I thought I saw a guy in white socks and crocks, but they were house slippers ...he must live there.

I used to really care about what I wore while hunting. I was religious about scent control, had a special kerchief to wrap my hair up in, special leggings to help keep the scent in.. etc.
Then I killed my first deer in pajamas and an orange vest and fashion sense for hunting went out the window ever since.

Don't know that I own a pair of white socks....all black for me. Shorties for summer time and shorts. Calf length for jeans.
Made the switch about 10 years ago....and you know what they say; once you go you can never go back.

While I don't have any black ones, I wear medium or lite weight merino wool socks when I go running. They are all earth tone (blue, tan, green, etc...) and my blister free feet don't really care what it looks like. They are hardly even noticeable:
