Everyone enjoyed the "Live form the stand" thread during deer season so lets start a LIVE from the turkey woods. I'm getting ready to go meet Woodmaster in Northern Warrick county.
Good luck all....and be safe...

I'll say amen to that span870! But, as my first cup of coffee begins to clear the cobwebs in my head, the excitement starts to flow through my veins giving me more energy and awakening me better than my Maxwell House ever could!

Decoys are out, nestled in my hiding spot with my Mossberg turkey gun loaded with 3" Remington Nitros and my SOG Huntspoint with rosewood handle on my side. Birds just started sounding off as I type this.

I 'm set up on a ditch line between two fields. I'm on what we call the back field. I'm at the narrowest part. 100 yards across the field is a small hardwood ridge. It is about 120 yards deep and then starts thousands of acres of stripper pit spoil banks.
The field had beans in it last year and now has some weeds that could hold bugs snd seeds. Hopefully a feeding/breeding area.
Woodmastet is over on our 40 acre patch on the food plot. His back is to a set of pines that leads back to the stripper Pitt spoil banks.
51 degrees and a bit windy .
Got set up by 5 cst and we have heard so far ....
NOTHING!

I've got 4 turkeys down the field about 200 yards. I thought at first it was a longbeard and 3 hens.. Got a better look with the binos and it is 4 jakes..

Several crows went nuts and all four turkeys went on alert .. Different species go take clues from each other..

Short recap. Left work an hour early but still breaking day already. Hit a big doe, messed up my truck. Kept going get to my public spot. A truck there already but no sign in his dash showing he was drawn for turkey hunt so I go in. Right away spot a small bird, call and he comes running across the end of the field. No decoy, he hangs up, I miss... Take a breath. Look up and see a fan sticking out of the weeds a few hundred yards up. Put on the sneak, pop up he's 100yds and BOOM BOOM he goes flying. Apparently the other truck is in here and hunting illegally. Great. While sneaking I heard a few gobbles off in the woods where I killed last year. Eased in here, decoy out and just gonna wait it out here for an hour or so and try to make it back home without any more mishaps...

So far heard 12 separate birds. All seemed to just shut down about 5 minutes ago. Walked by my buddies truck. What I thought was a decoy was a gobbler standing right by it. Seen my first bobcat.

Bummer Adam....
I had the 4 jakes come in and whoop up on my Avian X Jake decoy. I let them have at him for about 25 minutes while I videoed it with my iPhone . Very interesting seeing the dominant Jake doing most of the flogging. In his excitement Every now and then he would smack one of the other jakes. I knew they couldn't hurt my decoy as they don't have sharp Spurs yet.
I've got to wait til I get home yo upload the videos..
Made my morning ...

Got set up about 45min before legal, never heard a bird or even saw a bird left a 8:00 as it was snowing and sleeting. Temps are 34 degrees with a west wind at about 12 mph, not a very good day for an opener.
