Safest thing to do is stick with the 10% and dilute it, don't go with the commercial insecticide stuff. It's, I believe without looking at the jug, 45% and hard to dilute to the right percent. I use it straight in my barn and kennels.

I've never had a problem using the .5% stuff - either commercial or my home made stuff. I have sprayed it directly on my clothes that I have on. I did that when I set my blinds last week. My guess the problem was. 5% and 30+% is where I ran into the problem and the clothe was still wet. Never had a problem before but it was already dry. As far as sweating, wouldn't worry about that. Not 5% but .5% .. That is a half of a percent . It is potent stuff..

How does this work for dogs? I know permethrin is the main ingredient in most of the good flea and tick stuff, but i also know in the wrong concentration it could be bad. I assume the .5% would potetially be safe to put on a dog. Is it applied the same (base of the shoulders)?

Not sure on dogs but NEVER put it on a cat. Permathrin is very toxic for cats..

You can use it on Dogs. Just spray it right on their coat. My label specifically has a dog section.

Jumped on the Permethrin bandwagon this year finally. So far so good. No ticks and no skeeters in 2 days of hunting, plus several days in the woods. Big difference than a week ago!

Ticks are terrible this year. I've been finding a half dozen or more on my clothes after each hunt. I used some tick spray (not sure of exact type) last hunt and still had them on me.

We were in the same boat a few weeks ago. Try the permethrin, you wont believe it. One oz in a spray bottle, then 19 oz water, easy peasy.

For the doubters, it isn't that hard. As deadeer said and as I said in an earlier post: 1:20 mix, let it dry overnight and go hunt, tick free. I have been in the woods for 5 days. No ticks and no negative physical reactions. It isn't hard to do....

I was spraying Garlon 4 on some invasive brush yesterday when I felt something crawling on my neck, A tick. By the time I was home and in the shower, I had found 3. All were still crawling when found, one was found after I was at home, in the house.

Only had one deer tick crawling on me so far. Had seven crawling up my legs while mushroom hunting yesterday. All dog ticks. Glad it was warm enough for shorts.
Haven't had one latched on yet this year, but have pulled close to 30 off so far. If I ever found a deer tick latched on, I'd go straight to the dr. A classmate has lyme disease and she says it is pure hell.

After a day in the woods my grandson and I are tick free. Took a bottle of the 10% permethrin from TSC and mixed one ounce with twenty parts water. Sprayed everything including boots. Works great. Every time I had an itch I didn't think it was a tick. LOL! And it wasn't Time to bump this up to the top again. I did this last year, let it dry for 24 hrs and didn't have a tick on me all season long. Gotta do this again soon, even for 'shroom hunting.

Bought 32 oz at TSC. 10%. $20. Ticks will now fear me! You should dilute that to .5 percent. Same as the spray can. Yes.5%. And as we learned on my thread last year just because .5% is good does not mean 50% is better unless you want to cut your hunt short and run home and take a hour long shower to get the burning to stop.

Span870, I looked for your thread and couldn't find it. Can someone post a link to it here?

We had a pretty mild winter this year. And the ticks are out in force the second the weather warmed up to 70 degrees F. We had a helper working in my parents front yard. She was picking up small tree limbs branches that blew off the trees in a storm onto the front yard. We have 4 68 years old maple trees in their front yard. She was in short grass on our lawn and walked across the street several times to dump the tree limbs into a deep ravine. She can into the house to rest after a hour of working in the yard. She wen to the bathroom to do her business. She only comes once a week for four hours at a time to help my mom out.
After she left to go home I was in the bathroom later that night and saw a tick crawling on the bottom of the tub. I was thinking to myself, "How did that tick get in the tub". Now I saw some small grass particles in the bottom of the tub too. So maybe she took her shirt of and shook it over the tub? I'm just guessing how the gass particles and the tick got into the tub. I got some alcohol and poured it over the tick. But it was still moving so I sprayed some liquid bandaid on the tick. There is a non slip floor mat on the bottom of the tub and the tick was actucally crawling around on top of the baeig colored floor mat. Then I got a pair of tweesers out of the medicine cablinet and picked up the tick and burned it to death with a match. I crushed the little bugger and rinsed the tweesers off in the sink. The tick parts went down the drain to the septic tank. A proper place for a dead tick IMHO.
I hate ticks!!!! They are disease carrying paracites that need to be eliminted from the earth. They can take mosquitoes with them.

Start supporting the insect eating birds and bats. The number of ticks and mosquitoes will be way down. Don't feed the seed eating birds. Those types will take over the area.
