I'm ready for some squirrel hunting and camping. It should work out about right for me,opening day will be six weeks after my wife has her surgery maybe I can get in some camping and hunting at the same time, might even throw in some fishing if she does alright. With back surgery you never know.

I have not missed opening deer weekend in over 25 years. But this year work is sending me and the wife to Hawaii for a week. I guess I can force myself. Never been, I want to see the Arizona, and tour the battleship

With the political BS from this past year, I just have very little passion for this year's deer season.
Friday evening we counted 11 does all with at least one fawn on the farm. For some reason, it seems we were the nursery of choice this year.

You know, I've had dwindling passion for deer hunting, for about the last4-5 yrs. now. I lost the place I had deer hunted for over 30 yrs. That, along with all the other BS that goes with it. The only reasons I'm still hunting at all is because of my son, and the fact that mama and I enjoy eating venison. I'm too old to even think about paying money for a lease.
Now squirrel hunting, that's an entirely different story. I have over 20 woods that I can squirrel hunt. Of which, only 3 I can dear hunt, AFTER opening weekend. 5 1/2 month season, no competition, I can actually carry the critters to the truck by myself. No BS from other hunters about hunting too close to their property line/stand/etc. No contest on what I love to do, anymore.

Just asking how did we get from opening day of squirrel season to deer hunting, did I miss something. Because I mentioned I was more anxious for opening day of squirrel season than I have for years for opening day of deer season....... It's all my fault,I admit.

Went and did something dumb, in honor of squirrel season. Bought a second Ruger 10/22, so I can have one scoped and one with fiber optic peep sights. Pics later when I get everything together.

Doesn't sound dumb to me. Only danger with 10/22's is there is so much out there to spend $$$ on!

Here's a couple of pics. Waited til mama went to work, before I started the covert operation! Put the peep sight back on the birch stock that I bought last fall, and put the scope on the new one with the composite camo stock. Can't wait to get out to shoot it! maddog

You mean they make synthetic camo 2x4's to put barrels on and sell as guns?
WHY?!!?
