I just returned from our second annual Lake Michigan fishing trip fishing out of Ludington, Michigan aboard the "POLECAT". On Monday we left the dock at 5:00am and ran flatout in total darkness for 22 miles to a large water temperature break in 530 feet of water, this break was about 2 miles wide and 10 miles long. The skies were sunny the water was flat the air temp was about 65 with an advancing storm front that arrived as we were running back to the dock. We caught 10 Steelhead averaging about 4 pounds each and 2 Lake Trout with one of them being a 13 pound monster. On day two we were forced to cancel the morning trip because of 35 mph winds and rough waters however we rescheduled it for 3 pm and the weather was as perfect as you could want with little or no wind sunny skies flat calm water and 50 degree air temps.By dark we were wearing everybit of clothing we had brought because it was so cold we could see our breath. We caught 7 Steelhead with a couple of them going 6-7 pounds, 1 Coho and 2 Kings one was about 8 pounds the other was a 17 pound freight train that took about 20 mins to land.We lost several big fish because of numerous rookie mistakes by some members of our group. So our take for the 2 days was 22 fish perfect weather and plenty of great memories aboard the "POLECAT". www.ludingtonpolecat.com/Video of me www.youtube.com/watch?v=OJHZ7chdf0c

Sounds like fun. We used to fish out of Michigan City every spring when I was little. It was always fun, but the one fall trip we made was awesome.

Well, the fishing trip never happened. It was scheduled for Tuesday, but because of the storm and 7'-10' waves it was cancelled.
I was up in Grand Haven anyway, and midday Tuesday the waves were breaking and washing over the concrete walkway going out to the lighthouse. As far as you could see out in the lake there were big whitecaps.

Sorry to hear that, on a side note the wife took the grand kids for a walk out to the lighthouse at Michigan City the other night, she watched 2 steeelhead get reeled in and saw several others on stringers. She said they were using bobbers but didn't see what they were using for bait

Guys that were fishing on the concrete leading to the lighthouse were doing the same thing. Catching steelhead and a brown here and there. They were using peeled shrimp tails for bait, they looked to be about 3" long - the same size that I would eat.
One guy said that the day before there were more fish caught on the breakwall than were brought in from the charters.
