whoops you were complimenting kennie. Still like mine better than when I was a gray alien. Too funny I like your photo too Jim. I appreciate your offer, and I may need it yet. I'm still holding out hope for Crane that they'll have a helper for me. I have forgotten what other hunts I applied for.

Im not sure if you all realize this, but you do not get extra tags for these last 2 hunts added. They both say that normal statewide limits apply. Everyone wants to put in for 20 hunts hoping that they can kill an extra buck, but you only get 1 buck unless its a state park hunt or military refuge hunt.

I always miss out on the good ones.

Some of us put in for the extra hunts to actually do exactly what the hunts are designed to do. That, and I give the park hunt deer to elderly friends that can't get out to hunt any more.

First deer, second deer, third deer...Bang, bang, bang. Three fawns, so be it. You are there to help control the numbers. I know several guys who buck hunt only, and they seem to be getting picked less and less. I always wonder if they hand pick guys that are successfully doing their job in park hunts. We do as asked pretty consitently, and almost always get picked.

I can't say for certain that hunters are hand picked, but I can say that after we started going into a knarly area of the park that no other hunters go into and bringing out limits every year the staff started taking bets on what time we would roll in the night before the hunt. :-) They literally recognized us by my boat and we always got drawn for that same section of the park. It may have helped that I passed a questionable shot on a true 180" deer and turned around and tagged out with does.

Yikes, what a deer! I have never killed a big one at a park hunt, yet. Would not pass one either. Have killed several spikes, forks, broken racks, etc. We just take the first ones that give shots. We were told at Potato Creek no boats allowed for the hunt. Not that any of that park is nonaccesible anyway, just remember being told that.

I've got family that only horn hunts at the parks and it drives me nuts. Dad and I shoot the first 3 legal deer we can. I killed my biggest buck at the parks it was a 157" 10 point and it was the only one I seen that year. I took major flak that year too. I kinda look at that as my reward for doing what was asked. The park we hunt we have gotten the same area the last 4 years and I kinda believe it's because we can consistently kill deer. Its a nasty walk and drag, but I've never failed to not harvest something.

I rarely see a single deer at state park hunts.

I agree with most of you on here about going in to do the management thing. Im not talking about the park hunts. Im talking about the last two hunts added. Lets just say that you go into these preserves to hunt and you already tagged your buck. You are in there to help control the deer numbers. You see three bucks the first day and two bucks the second day. You cant even pull the trigger!!! These preserve hunts to me are not management hunts if you cant harvest a deer. Maybe they should be earn a buck or something, but how many of you are going to drive 3 hours, book two nights in a hotel, just to shoot a doe when you can shoot 8 does within a few miles of your house anyways.

I'll try to shoot my limit this year since we have a donation place close. It would be a lot of fun for me to shoot one in different woods.

I just called DNR, and the lady said after Sept 5 they would be posted. Tick tock, tick tock.

Anyone know how many hunters are drawn for each if the Ft. Harrison hunts? Anyone that has hunted it before?
