I just got a bear recurve at a yard sale. It is marked amo66 but I'm not sure what size string I need. I've read online both 3" and 4" shorter is correct. I normally get my compound strings from www.60xcustomstrings.com but I have no idea when it comes to traditional bows. Thanks for any help.

Both my Bear recurves like one 4.5" under AMO length. I would get a Flemish string 4" under and twist it for the desired brace height. I've settled on using Allen Schafer's strings - 10 ring strings.

order it by amo length at most places or get an actual length of 62. 4" under amo for recurves...3" under amo for longbows

Like Dave and DB said, 4" for recurve and 3" for longbow. You can twist up or down some to adjust brace height as needed. I'm guessing it's an old Bear so you will need a non-fast flight material string like D-50 and not a D97 or 452X type material as it will damage the tips of your bow if they aren't reinforced to accept fast flight materials. 60x I think only makes an endless loop string. 10 ring makes good Flemish twist from what I hear also. www.tenringstrings.com
