My head hurts from reading all the comments that were just anti-hunting from all the news sources. Yeah this guy messed up but the death threats against him are just insane.

They published his name and state he resides in; he's going to get harassed at the very least.

Rush brought up an interesting point about this story today in the opening of his radio program...
"How can people be so upset about the killing of this 'innocent' Lion but not outraged over the recent revelations about Planned Parenthood selling 'innocent' human baby body parts?"

I saw a really good one on FB. It said if scientist find a single cell on another planet, they state that there is life on other planets, but a human fetus doesn't get the same consideration.

To fall back on the abortion debate as a defense is weak. In this day of media sensationalism, this guy makes all hunters look bad. It is not the first time he messed up. He shot a bear in Wisconsin from and area where bears were not legal game and tagged it in another area as legal. Same mentality of those that will pay 10K or more to shoot a farm raised trophy. The death threat thing is just as crazy. That lion was worth tons more as an area tourist attraction than the $50K This story is viral, not good for hunters.

I hate it that the news latched onto it. Watching Jimmy Kimmel cry during his segment over this lion was just ridiculousy over the top. I made the mistake of trying to tell people that we can't toss away all hunting just because this guy screwed up. So far I've had my weight ridiculed, been called a sociopath, ignorant and been told I don't believe in conservation because I hunt among other things.
I managed to get my own personal lynch mob in a matter of minutes.
13 years old is freaking ancient for a lion though, they usually don't make it past 12, so I was a little skeptical about the whole thing about how he was in his prime.

To fall back on the abortion debate as a defense is weak. In this day of media sensationalism, this guy makes all hunters look bad. I'm not defending what this guy did at all. If nothing else, he should have been aware of the laws of the country and areas he was hunting in and not relying on the paid guides - especially in a country that is known to have corrupt people in it. Perhaps he did know it was illegal and he's just trying to pass the blame off on the hired guides. In any case, I hope they hang him out to dry and he gets the book thrown at him. That having been said, if anyone tries to bash me because I hunt, I'm going to ask them where their bleeding heart is for all the completely innocent children that planned parenthood has murdered since it began the practice. I don't think it is a weak argument to make at all. Because how can someone who is without morals (when it comes to abortions) question me about my morals when it comes to me hunting deer to not only put food on my table, but to also help control the herd to keep it healthy? Secondly, the title of this thread needs to be changed...The pictures floating around of Palmer posing next to the dead corpse of Cecil the Lion show a bow and arrow as well, NOT a crossbow.

If this would of happened with farm raised lions and in a fenced pen that would been ok for many..... Indiana is a perfect example of that!!!

Can the Original Poster dou8ble check his "crossbow source? It seems that this story is all over the map in "facts?" Thanks

Johnny Rodrigues, chairman of Zimbabwe Conservation Task Force..
This group is an animal rights group running under the banner of "conservation". They have already admitted a few mistakes in their "reporting"..

No shooting... But he definitely used a compound bow... Not the first time the press has used animal rights freaks narrative on an animal kill.

Greg, Thanks for the correction...But if you want to get right down to it, the animal was ultimately killed with a "gun". "Rodrigues said Palmer shot Cecil with an arrow but failed to kill him. Then the two men tracked Cecil, finding him about 40 hours later and shooting him to death with a gun, Rodrigues said." Quote above from this article..... www.cnn.com/2015/07/28/africa/zimbabwe-lion-killed/
