I don't blame him one bit, and can't say that I wouldn't have done the same.

Good for him. Hopefully he comes out ahead in his legal battle. I am surprised it had taken this long to hear about a situation like this.

I would have shot it down as well. Flying over is one thing but stopping and taking a look around with a camera was taking it way too far. What they didn't expect was for someone to actually stand up and protect their rights.

I think the authorities need to put more stringent rules in place when it comes to these things. Playing "peeping tom" is creepy.....this one is scary.... www.youtube.com/watch?v=r_kfUVZdTkU

His mistake was admitting he did it .... if the officials had enough evidence that he did there was no reason for him to admit more. If they did not have enough then his admission was all the proof needed.
Never. Ever. Talk.

I agree completely, but what about the kid who rigged his drone with a functioning handgun?

I wish that he'd win, but I think he will be hosed because of firing the gun within the city limits. The SIM card should have been confiscated so they can see what's on it. Better shot with bigger pellets might have resulted in the drone coming down on his land.... Just saying....

I have a feeling this case is going to have national implications and it will be interesting to see how it all ends up. The laws need to catch up with the technology before this gets out of hand.....

In photography, a photo can be taken of people when the photographer is on public property even if the subject is on private property. If privacy is attempted, but the photographer intrudes, it's illegal. So if curtains are pulled shut, shirt over head...
On FB there was a city councilman who complained about the smoke from a neighborhood cookout blowiong out of yard was illegal. If true, then the air space belongs to the owner; therefore, the drone would be on public property.
It will be interesting.

According to the new story it was only 10 feet off the ground. He could have easily whacked it with a tree trimming pole or squirted it with a garden hose.
"I was just trying to water my lawn. Didn't think there would be a drone here!"

He just did what most of us would have wanted to do. He sure could have been a little smarter about it. I hope he doesn't get nailed over it, but he will most likely get charged with something and it will cost him some money.
I've always liked the remote controlled helicopters, and would like to have a drone. It would be cool to find where the deer are bedding on my neighbor's property. Personally, I hate to bother or inconvenience anyone, and wouldn't do it. I'd make a terrible paparazzi.

I've read that the drone was 300 feet above the guys house (according to the drone pilot) but then in a later story, the pilot said he was @ 200 feet when it was shot down.
The man who shot it down, claims that he was using number 8 bird shot and couldn't have knocked the drone down @ those altitudes.....

The man who shot it down, claims that he was using number 8 bird shot and couldn't have knocked the drone down @ those altitudes..... Today on the local news the guy who owns the drone claimed that it was "at least 250 feet in the air". A 250 foot shotgun kill with #8s? My 20 guage with a turkey choke firing 7.5s maxes out at 40 yards, I don't see a 12 guage doing that much farther. Why did the drone owner say that he only passed over the properties, but the guy who shot it down had enough time to go into the house, retrieve his shotgun, and still have time to get off 3 rounds? Multiple people on the ground stated that they observed the drone hovering in more than one yard, including directly in front of a window sheltered under an awning. They showed the drone on tv, it had very obviously taken a shotgun hit. Also, the reason the SIM card wasn't recovered was that when the drone was recovered the SIM was already gone. They don't just fall out, you have to press on the card to eject it, so somebody removed it before the cops arrived.
