10/22 all day long I messed around with a Remington and a savage and a marlin my younger days but just fell in love with the 10/22 for multiple reasons I run a stock gun with a bsa .22 special scope on it but they are so highly upgradable to suit your style different furniture and optics and barrels and all kinds of goodies I will eventually put another stock on it. I just get a feeling of quality out of it that I haven't been able to obtain for similar money. It hits where I aim it almost everytime

Like I posted on facebook; should have stuck with the college girl! If I have to make a shot with one of my 22lr's I'm grabbing the 541T. It does have 1 weakness - the plastic mags. Sure wish someone would make metal mags for it.

I'll take one of my PCP pellet guns over anything, any day. I can drop a squirrel while his buddies just a few limbs over have no clue what us about to come their way.

dbd870, I'd have to agree with you.
I love my old trusty lever Marlin, and my 1022T Ruger is a tackdriver for a modern auto, but the tightest groups I've ever shot were with my younger bother's 541T. He had a trigger job done on it, and then had it done again after he convinced the smith he was an experienced rifleman and would only be using it under range conditions. The second one took it down to the point where you can almost fire it by telekinesis.
My Ruger with some of these subsonic HP's I'm using now might just beat out his 541T using LRHP's. But then there's the 2x4 stock, which can't compare to the 541T, and the wieght of that bull barrel....Maybe with a carbon barrel and a custom stock, and a Timney trigger......?
For practical purposes, when I carry one into the woods to actually walk a ways and get some squirrels, it's usually the old Marlin in my hands. Accuracy that's "good enough w/n 30 yards" in a light and handy rifle that I have complete trust in, outweighs the advantages of the "more perfect" choices, for me.

I have used any other rifle since I bought my savage 17 HMR.
Honestly, I would recommend what ever gun you feel is best for you.
I tried a 10/22 when they first came out, and I use one for range day when I teach Hunter Ed. Personally, I just can't stand the feel of the things. They seem to be good guns, and obviously have lots of aftermarket choices form them. They're just not for me.

Marlin bolt action is fine for me..... Or the Thompson Center Contender pistol.

Back in my early 30's, when I was in to buckskinning, I bought a .32 cal Dixie Tenn. Mtn. rifle. It was a flinter[my one and only]. I shot several limb chickens with it, but when my buckskinning interest waned, I sold the rifle to my cousin. Today, I kinda wish I had it back.

Really brings them to bag and is much less destructive than a .22 LRHP. However Ky won't allow the use of centerfire rifles for Squirrels. This seems rather strange to me.
