I've been told that the number of active in the field patrolling ICO's is way down. Apparently the DNR Director decided to freeze at least 20 vacant field positions, and that coupled with the decision by the current DNR Law Enforcement Director to promote at least 10 officers out of the field and put them behind a desk at the local offices has the number of active duty, patrolling, taking calls Game Wardens down at least 30 bodies. Promoting 10 officers out of the field to desk duty seems to me to be a bad decision when the number of officers in the field was already down. Looks like we are going to have to do a lot of policing ourselves and keep the TIP line number handy. Hopefully there will be someone to take the call. What happened?

The promotions were necessary to fill upper rank vacancies due to retirements. The hiring freeze is asinine. The numbers should be increased and never allowed to be below 90% filled positions.

How many have left because of pay and benefit issues?

The promotions were not to fill vacated positions due to retirement, they were newly created positions that actually took additional field officers out of the field and put them behind a desk. Seems like bad timing to be pulling field officers out of the field and putting them behind desks when the field is already short handed. We need officers in the field first and foremost.
