All,
I just got an email from the DNR Fish and Wildlife asking me to post this.
It seems that there are a few cases of suspected EHD that have popped up. Most in a couple deer farms and two cases in Parke county in the wild herd. These are not confirmed as of yet.
This is early and considering the amount of rain that we have had it is somewhat perplexing for the wild deer.
The DNR Fish and Wildlife request -
Anyone seeing any dead ones?
Thanks,
WW

I've not seen any Dead Deer in my area or heard of any, other than road kills. EHD can occur even with a wet & rainy weather as midges, that carry the disease still breed and spread the disease, just as they do in a dry hot Summer. The Humidity/dew point, has been unusually high with all the rain, which means the nighttime temps. are well above average.

I hunt near Mansfield and was just out Saturday didn't notice anything. Camera showing lone buck several times looks to be skeeter covering him up

Unfortunately, it's that time of the year where EHD starts to show itself.....
Hopefully, it won't be too bad. I guess time will tell......

With as bad as the skeeters have been this year around here, I don't know how the deer deal with them. The flooded timber was and still is a breeding ground for the skeeters. There's still areas in the woods where there is standing water.

Havn't heard of any in southeastern Indiana. We just had 1.5" rain Monday evening and have been getting more than avg. rainfall during June and July. I think there will always be some cases regardless of weather but this year should be mild compared to drought year's in past. Have seen more antlerless deer running around farm this summer than I have in quite a few year's. That goes double for fawn's as they seem everywhere. Again think wet spring provided plenty of food early and put hay harvest off till late providing additional cover from predator's and from hay equipment as well.

I will be at a Parke Co farm this weekend starting a plot and will keep an eye out. Next weekend I am participating in a QDM coop meeting with others in the Parke area and I am sure we will discuss EHD.

Its funny because if you look at a certain Facebook page you would think every county in the state has had EHD cases and the DNR is not even making an effort to confirm any cases.
I was down in Ohio County last weekend and didn't come across anything.

I was down in Ohio County last weekend and didn't come across anything. I believe (if what I saw on another site is correct) that the DNR is checking into a couple of these.

EXACTLY.....you would think the way there acting this is the FIRST time ever to have reports of EHD in the state ever... But yet there is not any CONFIRMED cases!!!

Indiana Whitetail Deer Herd Management
Just talked to Conservation Officer Slaven from Parke Co moments ago. He confirmed officer on duty today responded to call from farmer of two dead deer along waterways. One died recently and has been sent for testing. The other had too much decomposition to test. Based on proximity to each other, visual inspection, and being found by water it is relatively expected the test will be positive for EHD. Two reports earlier in the week from deer farms in Madison and Hamilton Co's. Now first report of deer from the wild herd. If anyone discovers any dead whitetail deer especially along waterways please report to us and the IDNR-DFW or local law enforcement. Time is short for valid testing. Gary A Walters
Just found this on another site

EHD happens every year. This normally happens in late July, August, and September which is normally the hottest and driest time of the year in most states. Some years are just much worse than others.

You and this post just got screen shot ' on the IWDHM facebook page, Woody. I know.. Someone was trying to make a case against the DNR Fish and Wildlife and it fell VERY flat... A little short in reading comprehension trying to say what the DNR did not say..

Back to the subject..
Now that some of you are out chasing bushy tails be on the look out for dead deer. Go a little out of your way if necessary to check water holes. Most EHD deer will seek water..
Report it if you see any..
Thanks...
