Have any of you guys hunted Alaska?
I met a guy on FB who seems to really like me. He invited me up to hunt Alaska next year. I told him that I didn't have money for a drive-through cheeseburger. He says if his muzzle loader season continues like it is that he'll pay my way.
My daughter says, "Dad, remember what you told me about people on the internet..."
Dad, "Yes honey, but I'm not a young pretty girl."
Daughter, "No, but he might be a serial killer who eats people, and you would last one cold winter."
She might have a point.

Smart girl. Alaska is on my bucket list...will likely be after all the kids are out of the nest which luckily enough gives me about 18 years to save for the trip. I want to hunt brown bear with a bow....and have a great big gun as backup

I tend to think if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
Is this an outfitter? What/how would you be hunting?
I plan on hunting Alaska DIY sometime in the next 5 years, for blacktail or black bear or both. It's a $2k trip at a minimum.

I was always told that if it sounds to good to be true then it is. "There is no such thing as a free lunch", at least that is what my economics professor told me in college. I would be a little leery if it were me.

Only certain species.. brown bear, sheep, goat.
Moose, deer, black bear, caribou can all be done DIY. Logistics are just kind of tough. Deer and black bear can be done pretty easy places like POW Island, the moose and 'bou gets a lot more complicated and expensive.

I know it's hard to believe that such people exist, especially in today's world. I come from a family of givers. You have probably seen me offer to send several things free; I'll even pay for shipping. I expect nothing in return. It's just what we do. This is absolutely not the ways of the world. We're not going to be rich this way, but we're happy.
I had an uncle who would meet people for the first time and let them go stay in his vacation home. It's more of a reality to me, but I totally understand this is not common.
My first inclination is that if I have two of something, and someone else has none, I should give one away. It's just the way I was raised. One may ask how I can be this way, but be politically conservative? I give my own stuff away. I don't think I should have the right to give your things away. I'll give you my shirt, but not my rich neighbor's shirt.
I do not know if this guy is real, but he's consistent. We share certain beliefs.
I'm a giver not a taker. It will be very hard for me to take his offer, but I haven't ruled it out. I should probably live like I'm dying.

Go for it. Maybe call him and chat. This may help ensure that he is not a she and just being an online predator. Lure you in and put you in a pit in a basement. Hope they have wifi so you can let us know how it is going :-)
Or maybe they have an attack bear and need food?
But of course he could just be a nice guy looking to help you out.
Regardless it will be an adventure!

There's a guy on a few of my gun sites that has a annual shoot at his house in Kentucky every fall and has offered to help me get there and back and put me up in a motel. We've became friends over the last couple years and would like to meet me.There are nice people out there but also a lot of weirdos,I'd try to get to know him better and maybe see if the offer still stands next year.

Have hunted Alaska quite a few times; dall sheep, moose, caribou X2, black bear, wolf and brown bear. I would highly recommend it.
This deal does sound a little too good to be true. Check it out thoroughly in advance. Just getting to Anchorage from here will probably cost $700, then you typically have a $6-900 "bush flight" out to a hunting destination. On top of that you will need licenses, meals, motels during travel, etc. Can easily wrap up $2-3,000 in expenses before hunting, without any outfitter fees.

Some guy on Internet wants to pay your way to hunt in Alaska you met online. If that doesn't raise all kinds of reds flags, I don't know what will.

There are nice people out there, but as you say, there are a LOT more weirdos! It's not so uncommon in my world. How does that saying go? ...birds of a feather flock together. They seem to find each other, gravitate, coalesce and aggregate. Pride still seems to slip in and refuse the help. This is a really bad thing to do. Some of the poorest people I know are the most proud. Pride is sneaky, counterproductive and destructive. All I would have needed to say is come help me, and my cement clapboards would be all on my house instead of in my garage. LOL I got one small side done. I'm certain that you guys knew that I would not be able to do all that by myself. Men are infamous for denial. ..."I'll do it if it kills me!" That's us in a nutshell. I have a poor friend who is afraid to trust anyone, thinking they want something. This is mostly what he's been exposed to, so it's mostly what he knows. A guy came by his house for something, and saw his truck, or rust bucket. It had dangerously bald tires. The guy's family owned an auto shop, and told him to bring it by and they would put tires on it. He was so skeptical, but I reassured him that God has people all over this planet. He got the new tires and the guy wanted nothing in return.

Remember when online dating had a stigma attached to it? I remember talking with a fella who was having a tough time dating women. He said that he had dated a couple from the internet and it didn't go well. Back then I thought, "And you're surprised?" I met my wonderful wife on eHarmony seven years ago. It was the best thing I have ever done.

I have an uncle in Fairbanks. He's invited me several times but haven't been able to scrap up the extra dough to go either. Of course lodging would be free. Beautiful country though from what I've seen on TV and his videos he brings us to watch.
