Noticed far fewer pic's of bucks the past week and fewer buck sighting's around mineral lick's and food plot's. Also have seen couple buck's shedding velvet and have found a couple rub's. Every oak tree seems to have nut's on them and some starting to fall already so I am pretty sure where the bucks are going for food source. Opener will be here before we know it.

I noticed one of mine had partially shed his velvet last week during my last cam check. I still had pictures of 4 or 5 bucks together in a bachelor group though.
Haven't noticed any rubs yet, but have been trying to stay out of my 2 small properties as much as possible.
I did have some land open up for me to hunt this year where I work.. As soon as we get a halfway cool afternoon I'm going to go in and do some scouting.
1 more month!

Deer tendencies as far as movement are always controlled by 3 things; food, water and security. Those things change throughout the year so their travels change...no deer works in a pattern sense like many think; a pattern repeats itself with no deviation. Not a single deer I know does this...now granted travel tendecies from year to year or with similar situations like prevailing winds, food source timing and such can make deer rather predictable at times. *****4!!! Cannot believe I forgot the drive to pro-create. Survival of their species is a powerful thing at times.

You forgot sex. For a few weeks out of the year male deer basically forget about the other 3 and are driven by the need/desire/want/ to do the deed.

I normally see bucks in groups until the first and second week of September in southern Indiana and western Kentucky. I guess it just all depends on where you hunt.
That's one good thing about the states that open season in early September, you can still hunt the bucks on their summer feeding pattern and a lot of them still have velvet. Usually by the third week of September the bucks are mostly out of groups, they have lost their velvet, and they are less social and are much harder to pattern and hunt. The first two weeks of September are always a great time to hunt in Kentucky over or near a food source.

Wouldn't be any fun to go tag out on first hunt ...I couldn't spend October trying to nail smokeytoast and wear myself to a nub through November. .well I might if I had to.
