... The IDNR has had very liberal limits on antlerless deer in an effort to reduce the deer herd. In some counties it is working and the harvest numbers continue to slide as we see fewer deer to hunt...The acorn mast definitely made this winter easier on the deer ... www.gameandfishmag.com/featured/2015-indiana-deer-forecast/

Interesting .. I think this interview was early in the year...
They still have not decided on or hired a head deer biologist.

I expect similar overall results as last year - a slight reduction in the harvest.

The DNR is not making any bones about their agenda. Their purpose is to lower the deer population to "acceptable numbers". Much of this is still within the hunters control . The question is will we be able to control ourselves. Management is the key and management takes self control.

Anyone see the one response to the article...
He may very well be an extremely educated man, but whether a doe is killed early or late it's offspring potential is still zero and that doesn't change. Also, as far as I know this year the DNR has responded to all suspected or called in possible findings of EHD in the free ranging deer herd (key words: free range).
Am I missing something? I very well may have misread him, and who knows hopefully he (you) are a member here and can elaborate better if so.

Looks like he drinks the cool aid well!!! Just search his name on FB

I predict that everyone that does not shoot as many deer as they want to will blame it on liberal bag limits, not because they may have shot as many deer as they wanted to in the past.

The deer population is way down in a lot of areas from what it used to be. The deer population is probably at or below the natural carrying capacity in all Indiana counties for the most part. The DNR is probably managing the deer more based on the social carrying capacity since the human population and traffic is so high in many areas of Indiana now days.
In a lot of rural areas deer numbers are probably below carrying capacity, hunters need to remember this each season when they harvest deer. Hunters also need to realize just how many coyotes are around now days which also lowers the deer population each year.

Deer populations need to be below "carrying capacity". At or above carrying capacity is detrimental to the herd..

It stays hot and harvest might be low. Too soon to call.

I for one am seeing ton's and ton's of deer. Wet spring, late hay harvest and a abundance of acorns this year = good hunting. I am seeing 50-75 deer on avg per evening just on my 150 acre farm and that's just in the hay fields. Neighbor's all pretty much saying the same thing. (Deer are every where.) I have a 4 acre alfalfa field and I only got 2 cuttings this year as the deer keep it grazed down. My turnip plots I planted a month ago are getting tore up as are my clover and corn fields. Will be looking to reduce population on my place for sure.
