At the start of the buck season early April i was sitting on a road watching a big restock at dusk, out of the corner of my eye i caught a movement i slowly turned to look and it was a fox twenty yards away but it looked strange, it had no tail.
Because this fox was near to my friends farm that the pair of us shoot i phoned him as soon as i got home, then he spilled the beans.
two seasons earlier he had also seen a tailless fox but kept quiet for fear we did not believe him and sent him to the nutter house.lol
I now jump to two weeks ago when we were lamping for foxes to protect his pheasants and partridges that are still in the pen.
He is some man for making all his own kit, and we were out in his fields in his jeep with his home made light, he was playing a tune on his home made fox call when i picked up eyes not far away from us.
unfortunatley he could not see them, but they appeared again around three hundred yards away, he played and played on his call but that fox was just not coming to us.
Now there is no way we shoot at eyes without seeing a body, firstly his light is not good enough to give a definate identification at three hundred yards, and on top of that i had the hornet out for the night.
We tried and tried but no he was not coming, eventually we moved into another field but no luck, moved again over the ridge into another field were the birds were, we saw a movement as soon as i saw it i was on the bonnet asking is it a fox, answer came back not sure, this creature was going down the field at a rate of knots i sqeaked through my lips and it stopped to look at me around 150yds yes it was a fox so i sent the 35gr v max into its neck, down it went.

actually like i said to my friend the nutter house may be ok, three meals made for you, lovely nurses to look after you, no tax to pay, it isnt all bad, lol
