who shoots em? I have one being delivered today, NIB pietta 1860 with extra cylinder and a cabelas pistol starter pack Ive acquired in a trade. .44 cal.
30gr fff a good start? How about pyrodex rs? picked up a pound on clearance last year at wallyworld just because.

ENJOY! I have a modified Remington 1858 Pietta and it is a good shooter. I shoot 20 grains of 3f Goex, 20 ? grains of Malt-O-Meal filler in mine. Kills paper DRT. Just make sure your caps fit the nipples TIGHT. Oh yea, take a couple of rags with you when you shoot it

cleaned it up, loaded it and put my first six shots thru it. Im impressed for my first time with cap n ball. 15 yds standing one handed.... five shots grouped at 12 oclock with a center of target hold. The flyer to the right was my last shot and went off before I settled in lol. This thing has an awesome trigger on it. Really surprised me. about 3# max with zero creep and very very little over travel. Now that I know it isnt gonna blow off my hand, I think I can get some real accuracy out of it. Used 30gr fff with wonder wad then bullet then wonder seal to cap it off.
