I want to comend all those that take children hunting and fishing. I read an article years back from a prominent retired judge that worked in the juvinal delinquent system of a large metropolitan city that stated that in all the years on the bench he "never prosicuted a child that had a valid hunting or fishing license in there pocket". His take on this was that a child was either hunting, trying to figure out how to go hunting, working for supplys to go hunting or practicing his skills for hunting. Fishing falls in the same catagory. Also children in this catagory are taught respect for life, respect for property, respect for the land and respect in general. So again I comend all of you that take children in the field or on the water as I know they have a heads up on the ones that never get the chance

I agree completely. My 5yo will shut off cartoons or toys to fish or go out with me, every time. That says something!

When I was a child up to my early teens , I was a angry person never knew why . one day I beat up a kid because he said that's a big white dog you have there ( the dog was white ) and other mishaps .Then I started fishing and that started to relax my anger issues . Then I watched my first hunting program and wanted to start hunting . My parents said that heck would have to freeze over before I ever owned a shotgun . well I started shooting my friends shotgun and black powders . Then one day my friends Father talked to my Father and said that he believed that I would be just fine with a shotgun . Well when I turned 17 I bought my first shotgun and I cleaned that gun 5 times a day . My anger Issues calmed down and I did a lot of growing up . ( I always had a need and want to hunt and fish ) Even my Father was impressed with the change in my personality ( My Father was a man who was hard to impress ) Now a days I'm a humble and relaxed person . THANK YOU to my Friends Father who believed in me and Thank you Father for listening to my Friends Father And Thank you HUNTING AND FISHING FOR TURNING MY LIFE AROUND AND MAKING ME A BETTER PERSON.

PART 2 , SAD DAYS WERE UPON ME
I never was a drinker until my Father passed away . My Father Always told me that I wouldn't be by his bed side when he passed away and I always told him that I would be there until the end . On Aug 17 1990 I was at work when my Father was rushed to the Hospital for chest pains . I came home from work and walked into the house no one was there . not concerned until hours later and I started calling Family and none of them were home .For one reason or another My Mother never called me to say your Father had a Heart attack . Aug. 18 1990 My Mother finally called the house to say YOUR FATHER PASSED AWAY . I remember my Father telling that I wouldn't be there for him in a time of need , well it came true . I started drinking a 6 pack of beer a day which in turn became a 5th of Jack Daniels a day . But I still couldn't get my Fathers words out of my mind . At the same time I HATED my Mother for about 2 years . I wouldn't talk to her or nothing , it was just me and Jack Daniels . I didn't hunt or fish much during this period in my life . I started going to Church joined the BIBLE STUDY CLASS when my Friends Father asked me to do it . One night sitting outside I started crying asking my Father for guidance . that night my prayer was answered RELOVE MY MOTHER drop the bottle and START HUNTING AND FISHING AGAIN . That's when I started dedicating 1 hunt a year with the 410 that I bought my FATHER . NOW HUNTING AND FISHING IS A WAY OF LIFE FOR ME . MAN WAS TYPING THIS A TEAR JERKER
I NEVER OPENED MYSELF LIKE THIS BEFORE

Nothing wrong with crying. It is an emotional release. Most of us carry memories like what you describe. It is life.

Over the years a lot of us on here have become more like family than just "internet buddies". We've seen and shared births, deaths, illnesses, hard times, good times and on and on. We've run the gauntlet of emotions.
I know it took a lot for you to type those words and hit "create post", but as Jim said,"It's part of healing". With the help of the good Lord you're whipping your demons.
May God be with you and continue to bless you..

Took a lot of courage to write that. Often going thru the hard times makes us all stronger and better people. Glad you came out on top.

Mossberg500 Glad to see you are on the mend and thanks for posting. This just shows how much the out doors, hunting and fishing can heal a person. I knew it had great effects on children but did not realize the great benifits it had on the adult relm. You have enlightened me to a new Avenue to possibly help some one in the future. I am thankful for that and will keep my eyes open for the chance to help a fallen brethren in the future. You may not realise it but you are a great example of the great healing benifits of the out doors and the benifits it gives all mankind. Thank You again
