My experience says more daytime movement under dark of moon then full moon, but would agree. My belief is timing of rut is triggered by amount of daylight/sunlight, everything else moon phase, weather, pressure can enhance or detour daytime activity. But my favorite time to hunt is Nov. 1st to Nov. 15th. Have killed 80% of my bucks in this time frame. (Seeking/chase phases)

This is my mindset to a capital "T" and trail camera logs, hunting logs and others sights have confirmed this.

So what exactly do you guys mean by dark of moon? Dark period to me is the time from of a waning crescent (less than 25% moon visible and lessoning) to a waxing crescent (less than 25% crescent but growing)

It's based on about 200 dead does found on the road per year in New Brunswick.

a quote from the link
"From 1997 to 2005, biologists with New Brunswick DNR visited the sites of reported deer road-kills to collect biological data, including fetal measurements from pregnant does. The measurements, taken with a fetal scale invented by QDMA founder Joe Hamilton, allowed biologists to age each fetus to determine the precise conception date. With more than 1,600 does providing fetal data across nine years, the enormous sample size was more than adequate for Rod to draw sound conclusions."

So during this period do you sit in the stand all day or are there particular times during the day which are better than others? I myself have always been a crepuscular hunter. I haven't tried hunting during the middle of the day, however I'm starting to become more and more involved with trying to figure out deer movement patterns and the like. Thanks and god bless.

Bartiks....when a lot of factors line up (and I have the time) I'll set in certain stands all day. Now I'm not setting along a corn field edge far away from cover/bedding all day, but some of the great spots I have between bedding areas I will sit all day if moon phase is triggering movement, weather is as well, wind direction is nice for mature deer to feel safe traversing the spot without mine hitting them, estrous cycle of the does seem to be coming in or becoming a limited quantity (they'll really move) and other factors.
In 2012 I killed my buck just shy of 11 if I remember off hand....2 years back my pops shot a nice 8 pointer right around noon-thirty. My biggest buck to date was killed like 3 or 4 hours before sunset time (30 minutes before legal time even). I also believe my buck from like 2007 I shot midday as well...think it was like 1 or so.
A lot of it depends on the make up of the habitat you are hunting. I would be wasting my time 95%-99% of the time if I set along the edge of a couple ag fields I hunt for all day sits...however some of my other stand placements I'll gladly sit all day and wouldn't be shocked to see deer before sunrise through after sunset.

Thanks for that insight, I have the perfect spot for sitting all day. I will definitely give that a try this year. It is a stand that I believe is right between where they bed and the surrounding fields that they eat. The one spot that I've taken a lot of interest in is a spot about 20yds off a heavy trail and it seems that from the time the moon is waning and then back to waxing is the from like 8:00-10:00 in the morning.

I don't pay attention to what the moon is doing. I just try to be in a tree as much as I can from the last week in October through the first two weeks in November.
