Noticed a primary scrape that was recently opened up while walking out last night. When I say primary scrape it is a scrape that is always used year in year out for as long as I can remember. It is located under a large cedar tree and from year's past get's a lot of attention and use from multiple bucks and does. I am going to move a trail camera over to it to see which bucks are using it currently. Also have seen a few border scrapes along field edges but this is first primary one I have seen. Anything worthwhile show's up I will post some pics. Will be gone next week on vacation so should have plenty of pics by time I get back.

Now I hunt two 30 acres woods that are devided by three houses an two ponds 1 acrce pond an a 10 acre pond. In the much older woods that hasn't been logged tons of scrapes, but closer to a corn field. Now in the other woods I haven't found any.

I would hunt it the first evening conditions were right. I packed in a climber and arrowed a nice 8 pt 3 seasons ago on October 5 when I found an early scrape. This may have been luck on my part but I wouldn't go spreading my scent around it by putting in a camera until I hunted it first.

I was hunting 50 yds. from it last night and actually saw a yearly doe check the area out. That's why I checked on it when I got down. Ground tore up and over hanging limbs broken off. Did have couple 1.5 year old bucks come into food plot (Turnips) but they did not go to scrape. That's why going to hang camera about 10 yds. away aimed at scrape just to see what bucks are using it. I am guessing most visit's are happening after dark at this point. Pretty anal about scent control so since I am gonna be gone for week, figured it would be a good time to see what hits it while I am gone.

Good deal. I'm just always a believer that you never know what going to show up especially on scrapes in the earlier season. Just when you think they are nocturnal, there he is. Good luck to you. Hope he is big.

We have started to make mock scrapes and putting up cameras. I have heard that if you have one you are going to hunt on, pee in it? Our male urine has testosterone in it and it creates "competition"? When I learned to hunt, I was told never pee in the woods.
