Now I'm stealing this idea from another hunting forum but I found it very interesting as to what others found to need changed! So below, list everything that if you had open availability to change whatever hunting rule(s)/regulation(s), what would you change?

I would change it so all land was open to free hunting wherever you wanted to. That's all

I would reverse the above law, private property is just that.

In all seriousness, I would simply make it a hunter's right to retrieve a downed animal proven to a CO to have entered private property you do not have permission to be on. With the owner being made aware of course and encouraged to join if desired.

No lifetime limit on Youth Consolidated Apprentice Licences.
Bonus antlerless county limits changed to simply county antlerless limit.
Annual deer licenses instead of weapon specific licenses.
Add a sportsman conbo licenses.
Add "or from a public roadway" to the spotlighting law.
Severely increase the minimum fine for poaching, hunting/fiahing without permission, and trespassing.

No? haha!

No more leasing of land. Either it's purchased and belongs to the state, available for public use for the end of all time, or not at all. The Minehaha lease/closure really ticks me off.

So someone's private property is not longer truly private? No what I'm saying is don't even bother wasting the money to lease land for public use (don't even bother with lease deals in the first place), just stick with purchasing outright. I think it's stupid that we leased land on Minehaha for so long, put tax dollars into it, stocked the lakes with fish and then have it all taken away after the lease is up. I'd rather see the funds for habitat improvement be used on land that is actually owned by the state.

It is a shame that they have decided not to allow further leasing to the State, but they are having financial difficulties similar to other coal mines and are looking to raise capital. Maybe the State could swing a purchase of what they were leasing.

In all seriousness, I would simply make it a hunter's right to retrieve a downed animal proven to a CO to have entered private property you do not have permission to be on. With the owner being made aware of course and encouraged to join if desired. How would someone know the game was down before the retrieve if the game wasn't seen going down? You wouldn't !!! And how long would be fair to track a wounded game on some else's land?? Days? Hours??

The state was very fortunate that Peabody allowed use of the Minnehaha property for as long as they did, people should be thankful, not bent out of shape about this.
If I were going to change any laws it would be the firearms season structure / duration. Do something like Illinois; a 3 day season late rut, a 4 day season early December, then a 3 day muzzy season in mid December. No other firearms hunting.

My changes would be a September 1 start date for archery and (gulp) crossbows.
Gun season moved back slightly and shortened. Instead of the first Saturday after November 11 I would make the start date the first Saturday after November 15. Instead of running 16 days it would run 9 days.
MZ season would come in two weekends after gun season ended instead of the weekend after. It would also run 9 days.
All seasons would end December 31.

(1) Delete all IN deer hunting regulations (2) Highlight all of KY's deer hunting regulations, right click, select copy (3) Go back to IN's blank deer hunting regulations, right click, select paste.
