From a lonely room at the old YMCA in downtown Lafayette to center ring at Madison Square Garden, William Afflis' life was seldom dull in his 62 years on Earth. "Dick the Bruiser" was more than just "The World's Most Dangerous Wrestler." indy.st/22V11a7

He was also an accomplished pistol shot. Owned a small piece of property south of Martinsville on a back road and spent a lot of time there when he could, on a small range he had built. The Crusher was into pistols too, met him one day at the local gun shop and had quite a conversation with him.

Man I miss watching him and Bobo Brazil tear up a ring. My first German Shepherd was named Bruiser after Dick the Bruiser.
I remember hearing about him and Mr.Saito clearing out a bar in Chicago.

I didn't think you were old enough to know who he was. My grandpa was a kind gentle man, but he loved to watch Dick the Bruiser, and so did I.

Hell, I am 41 and remember him well. I also remember the Crusher and Spike Huber. He was supposed to be one of their nephews or something. Lots of good ole memories growing up.

I figured you were in your 20s; it's just that youthful spirit. Da Bears!

I remember hulk Hogan and Randy savage... I remember seeing them when they first came onto the seen. I seen the first wrestle mania at Notre Dame University by telecast.

I also use to love to watch heavy weight boxing. I don't even know if they have any now.

My mom worked in a an all men nursing home when I was a kid. I often hung out there and talked to the old guys and watched wrestling or whatever.
Bobo Brazil
Haystack Calhoun
Sailor Art Thomas
The Sheik
Sgt. Slaughter
Mr. Fuji
Moose Morowski
Cowboy Bob Ellis
Gypsy Joe
Abdullah the Butcher
Chief Wahoo
Killer Kowalski
Yukon Moose Cholak
That is all that comes to mind.
A little old black and white.
I have good memories of talking to the old guys. They would get their stashes out and show the pictures and other treasures. It amazed me the lives some of them led - a broken down little old man could have been a heck of an adventurer.
I have a genuine Teddy Roosevelt campaign button, in color, from his Bull Moose party run- an old guy gave me. I intend to keep it until I am in a nursing home, and give it to the first kid that hangs around to visit and listen to my stories!
