A friend from Illinois asked me, since I am in Indiana, I should "know" the local info on it.
I heard they were sourcing jobs overseas, now the deal is off?
I'm not trying to be political, just want to hear the local side of the story, and not the media side of it.

Also, it sounds like they may have also only gone for it because the parent company is a government contractor.

Indiana is giving Carrier $700k in tax incentives each year for 10 years ..... in exchange, Carrier is keeping (at least) 1100 jobs in the Indianapolis area and investing $16M in upgrades to the manufacturing plant.
Ive not seen any other details on it but given what I have seen I think it is a great deal for everyone.

If you look beyond the headline....he gave 7 mil tax incentive on condition they spend 16 mil on expansion. That puts more money in state taxes for property tax, more people working after expansion, more people working during expansion (contractors, sub contractors) and the resulting INCREASED income tax for those individuals AND the companies they work for.

What's unbelievable is the current president is saying how Donald can wave a "magic wand" and get results. Then the spokesman Josh Ernest, a puppet, says how its ONLY 1k jobs, and the current president has saved 800k jobs. Lol.

Sounds like a good deal to me. Better than zero jbs and no expansion.
When we lose jobs and companies it is more than the direct jobs lost. These people will in many cases move away. 1000 less people buying gas, groceries, lunches, services etc... 1000 less people to participate in the blood drives, community outreach and other charities that many work places participate in.
Throw in the reinvestiment agreement....that is a great deal considering the alternative.
tax breaks or incentives are part of business. nothing new.

Our heat pump finally conked out a couple of months ago, had a local Bryant dealer put in a new one. Carrier it was, same as a Bryant, compatible with the electric furnace. Only one problem, it was MADE IN MEXICO!

I don't see the 700k per year tax break as a pay-off; it's Carrier's money to begin with, we're just taking less of it, not "giving" them anything.
And really, $700k per year is a drop in the bucket compared to the amount of money that Carrier injects into the economy.

I saw where Bernie Sanders was saying that Carrier should be punished with a tax instead of a tax break.
Corporate taxes are way too high in the USA and that is one reason companies are going foreign..

Tax abatement works, plain and simple. It always has, it brings more industry and jobs to the U.S. Liberals hate it, probably because it represents capitalism and actual hard working people. Win-Win!

I look at it this way. $7,000,000/1,100 jobs =$6,363.63/10 years =$636 per job per year. I do not think that is a bad deal. I would love to see ALL of the Carrier jobs and maybe that will happen.

The correct terminology is tax relief, soon all corporations as well as small businesses will see the same tax relief in a coroprate tax rate going from 35% to 15%. It's a game changer for businesses to re invest in their companies which in turn translates into more hirings. Wont get to long winded here but its a fairly simple process as long as the American people can buy American again.

It happens everyday most times its the state and city that give breaks for them and IMO its a good way to keep jobs. Just think most of the people working there own homes = tax's money for the schools than there's gas tax sales tax sin tax. Just think about all the cars they will buy shopping eating out and most of it at local stores which they pay income tax on the money comes back in short order when you think about it

Corporate taxes 35% Donald wants it down to 15% IMO it would be one of the best things they could do creating good jobs fix's a ton of things and with high tax's it impedes growth.

I don't think we are disagreeing though. The way the news makes it sound is we are cutting carrier a check for $7M but in actuality over the next 10 years if they would have paid say $50M in taxes it will instead be $43M.
