Does anyone have experience with the new remington ML? If i could scrape up the funds i think it could be an interesting option. I've never shot one but know a guy who has one. I've held it it is a pretty heavy gun. He said it kicked so bad he had to send it to a gun smith/shop and they machined a muzzle break on it. Said it tamed it down some but not a whole lot. I feared that. I think you are suppose to use 200 gr of black powder when shooting. Thats hot to kick hard.

I have the Remington 700 Ultimate muzzy and it worth every bit of $$$.
I shoot Blackhorn 209. My gun likes 136 grains by volume which is close to 95 grain by weight. Which pushes my 250 grain bullet well over 2,000 fps. At that charge it is very pleasant to shoot. I tried 150 grain by volume and yes it kick like a mule and it didn't group very well. Blackhorn gives you more feet per second with less powder. It is very clean burning. If you use Blackhorn 209 and the way the breech plug is designed in Rem 700 you don't have to clean breech plug. You use regular Hoppes #9 bore cleaner. Its a snap. I've probably shot 50 shots thru gun so far and I haven't clean breech plug yet just barrel and I haven't had any issues with hang fires. I'm touching holes at 100 yrds and and around 2.5 inches at 200 yrds. I haven't tried 250 or 300 yards yet.
I'm still trying different loads and bullets but I believe it is a 300 yrd muzzleloader all day long. That being said I don't know if I am a good enough shot at longer distances but the gun is.
I've always been a pellet guy just for conveyance but I will never go back after using Blackhorn 209.
Goggle Remington 700 ultimate muzzleloader and look for reviews by Randy Wakeman. He has very good info about gun has videos shooting 700.

Well, I bought the Savage 10ML from a buddy. Now you more experienced guys need to school me on .45 caliber conversions. I found this conversion for Savage centerfire rifle to muzzleloader, but don't know if it is the same procedure on a 10ML. www.smokelessmz.com/savage.html

You need to go to dougs message board. Those boys will fix you up. They are smokeless NUTS and know more about smokeless and the best way to convert that gun in to exactly what you want. They are great. They will also tell you what powder and weight and bullet to start with to get you shooting good right out of the box. You cannot beat them. Good home town boys Onebentarrow. PS I a member there but do not post much. I go every day and read the new info and advancements they come up with. GOOD LUCK

I thought it was only for the muzzle loading season they limited the ML you can use. That's what I thought as well, but 2 different phone calls to the Colorado DNR on two different days, talking to two different people and I got the same answer. Silly, but it's their rules...... The folks you talked to were incorrect.. The muzzleloader restrictions are only for the muzzleloader specific season. Scopes, sabots, etc. are legal during a rifle season.

I could have shot an elk at roughly 100 yds with it then. Rats.

If it's an ML-II, call Pac-Nor barrels. They will walk you thru the ordering process. I'd go stainless barrel, because if you get a steel one you will have to blue it or some other way protect it from rusting. You will need a stout vise, a set of barrel vise jaws, a barrel nut wrench and look on Dougs how to set the headspace. You can also probably call Luke and he can sell you most if not all the stuff you will need. www.smokelessmz.com/

If so if you go there and contact him he will instruct you on how to do it your self. And work with you thru the proses with no charge. The only cost would be IF you bought any products for your build from him.

ML-I or pre-accutrigger ML-II? It is an original 10ML (ML-1). My buddy and I bought a pair of them when they were first released (the year 2000, maybe?) I ended up selling mine unfired, and this is the one my buddy had.

I'd call Luke and talk to him. I know the breechplug has to be headspaced by Savage, unlike the breech plugs for the ML-II's. You cannot just buy a breechplug and slap it in like you can do with the ML-II's.
I have a NIB unfired ML-I here that I sold to a buddy that had to have it, only to buy it back from him unfired 9 months later when he was hard up for $$. Unfortunately he had the parts for the gun scattered all over the house and he lost the breechplug.

Why convert to .45?

I would assume gaining a flatter trajectory and increased velocity would be reasons near the top. My main reason would be to get away from the primer module that the original Savage smokeless muzzleloaders have. If I'm going to get a new aftermarket barrel, I may as well get a .45 and pick up a few benefits.

I'm impressed with Luke, as not only does he come highly recommended by many, but he responded to my inquiry within minutes and provided an estimate of what he felt I needed to convert to .45 cal.

I would love to be able to reach out to 300+ yds but it's not in my budget any time soon. I think it would be cool to do, but I really have no desire to do it here. I may have a 250yd shot from my food plot to the bed, but if I see it there, it's coming to the plot. However, I would like to try it out west or on some big land somewhere. BIL has a 400yd range at the back of one of his corn fields. I guess as far my 30-06 will effectively kill is as far as I'd ever want shoot.
