I could buy a thousand rounds of the Hornady American Whitetail for under $800 and I'd never shoot it all in a lifetime. I'm sure that even 200 rounds for $159 would last me my hunting career, if I shot three rounds annually for a zero check and a couple while hunting. And they'd all be the same lot number. Lol! No need for me to work up a precision load for a rifle that will see no use other than busting a deer at probably less than 100 yards. Lol! I doubt I could have a buddy load me up any for less than the 79 cents a round that I'd have in the Hornady stuff. All I'd benefit from would be a tighter group. Good point. The only risk I see with your angle is, you sure better hope that lot of 1k shoots good enough in your gun! That all comes down to how picky or satisfied you are. Or luck...

Oh, I'll definitely pick up a box of 20 for testing before buying bulk. It may not be the same lot, but surely Hornady has decent enough quality control. I'm satisfied with 1 MOA accuracy, so hopefully I can get that out of the box without having to hand load.

I probably have only put 20-30 rounds thru the .243 in the past 4-5 years once I found a load that I and the gun were happy with.

Why can't they leave well enough alone and quit trying to tack stuff on. Why can't they start something new for the new amendments to let them stand on their own merit?? I swear, politicians must have thought God asked them if they wanted Pains instead of Brains and they said "NO, I don't want any."

The bill's author has withdrawn his dissent and has accepted the Senate's amendment that limits the brass length to 3" or less. 04/21/2017 Motion to concur filed. iga.in.gov/legislative/2017/bills/house/1415#document-f499e8d4The motion to concur means that one chamber accepts an amendment adopted by the opposite chamber.

All it needs now is the governors signature? I'm far from a legislative expert (lol). Perhaps there is a formality where the House acknowledges the motion before it goes to the governor. Either way, it should be a done deal, as it passed both chambers, and the only dissenter has withdrawn the dissent.

I'm sure Jack Corpuz knows the ins and outs on this.
I'm glad to see them get it straightened out but still don't like the political involvement in the original bill..
Politicians should stay out of game management ..

UPDATE:
It is no longer a House bill and has become a House Enrolled Act. It's ready for the Governor.

Bill and I are old farts. We only get on the Internet a couple of times a day (or week) so we may not seem to be here as often as others. The bill now goes to the Governor. By the way the rifle portion of this bill is likely the least important to DNR as the rest of the bill. Glad to see this session end. The next session will be a doozy. I spent all day in Forestry meetings.

You are probably right about the next legislative session being a doozy. Also, isn't the next one a "short" session compared to this year?

Next session is a short one. I think all the fireworks will start in September with the summer study which they move around the state. The treehuggers will want to tell the legislature how the forests should be run and their ideas do not benefit the bulk of the folks on this site.
So you getting that rifle ready yet? I was out all day sighting in my turkey gun and scouting. Friday was all day meeting with state and national forestry people.

Hatchetjack, Thank you very much! It's appreciated. Jim Keep in mind I don't describe myself as a "deer hunter". I'm just a hunter and fisherman.
