There is a trick to cooking them that dissolves the small "Y" bones. Please elaborate Scale and fillet, leaving the skin on. Slice thru the meat to the skin, every 1/4". Deep fry. The hot oil will dissolve/soften the "Y" bones. Typically the "Y" bones don't extend much past the rib cage on fish.

Well tried fishing yesterday with zero to report. Even drowned a worm thinking something would hit, nope. Tried fishing a little pond choked full of weeds by dragging a weed less thru it. So I tried dragging the bottom with the weed less at our lake, however dads lab kept trying to fetch the lure whenever I cast it. Stupid dog is lucky I was fishing with weed less other wise she would of gotten a hook in her.
Can't wait until dad breeds that dog so we can start seeing some fruits of trying to keep that dog safe.

13.25" 1#, 2 oz spawned out female Yellow Perch. The Hybrid Striped Bass was 16" and 2# (it's going on 3 years old). The Rainbows were 13"-15" and a pound and a half give or take. Those were only the ones kept, other perch and trout were released. Some unintentionally. LOL

Going to try carp fishing in a pond that the river gets into time to time. Anyone have any ideas on good carp bait? I caught one last year on a worm, it was around 3.5#. Figured I would try again this year to see if there was anything larger in there to give a fight.

Chum the area with at least one can. pour out into your hand, throw out in the area. Even better if you can do that a few days in a row before you fish. I'd use a #2 gold aberdeen hook on 8# test line and a medium weight spinning rod. Thread the kernels on the hook sideways until the hook was packed full. Throw out in the area where you chummed and wait. No weight, no bobber. Put the rod in a rod holder with a lot of slack in the line. WHen you see the line get tight, grab the rod and set the hook.

Went to the same lake today. Came home with 44 gills (about 15/20 were given to us by 2 orher fisher man that were there. Had 11 between 8 and 8 1/2 in and only one under 7 so a respectable mess. We each got a carp too Was fun on 4 lb test.

Caught a pretty nice mess of crappie on Rend lake, southern IL Saturday, think we finished with 42 fish. Water temps in low to mid 50's and fish just starting to get into the brush.

11 inch bull gill topped the fishing today. Let him go. Several slab red ears but we let them go. Full of eggs. Did have enough bluegills/small bass for a mess and filet them.
Have yet to make it out turkey hunting.
Geese have the new chicks out on the pond. Expect several more batch’s to appear soon. Mallards have made a big appearance here this year. They have several nests in the area.

With a couple of turkey hunts this week that produced nary a single gobble it seemed fitting to go fishing. I needed to try out my recent rod repair on a 9', 5 wt St. Croix fly rod. This was the first I've fished the Deer Creek pond. Windy as it was, I was able to land 14 gills and 2 small bass on my foam spider in about an hour. And the Rod casts great! Most of the panfish were in the 8" to 9" range.
