No problem with real time camera's but baiting should not be part of hunting. Real time gives intel but baiting is cheating, even when legal.

I know they are legal, but I find it hard to see how one would feel a sense of accomplishment by killing an animal (in no small part) with "intelligence" gained from sitting on the couch...

Next step a remote controlled gun, bow or crossbow..
Then a driverless ATV that will go pick it up and drop it on your taxidermist's door step..

I don't have a problem with the cameras in this situation.
If someone sits on the couch and waits for pics to show up on his phone then eases out to to a cornpile to shoot him 10 minutes later, yea I think that's definitely cheating.

You can use camera feeds in your tree stand! How is that fair? Technology just makes us lazier and lazier with each advancement. I quit using trail cams several years ago. Just missed the excitement of not knowing what's out there. Hunting used to be so much simpler 30 yrs ago. Miss the old times.

I'd agree that getting a live feed in your stand to alert you to a deer you can immediately kill is not fair chase hunting. Maybe the guy is lazy for not walking out to check the camera again before the opener but the results are no different thsn if he had. Found a buck, hung a cam, had 2 weeks of photos and hunted there because of it. I don't see this as he was in a stand, got a pic on the next field over so he got down and spot and stalked the deer to kill it ONLY because of a real time photo.

3pt buck
The difference I see (and IMO it's a HUGE difference) is that by sitting on his couch waiting on his phone to ring, he didn't run the risk of bumping the deer or stinking up the spot.
Is that an advantage for the hunter? IMO it definitely is...
As far as the scenario you mentioned, there was a guy on another site that did just that a couple of seasons ago. He was sitting in a stand, got a message and pic from one of his other cameras on the same farm, moved to another stand near where the pic was taken and killed the deer about a half hour later.

Those cameras would definitely be an advantage. But so is everything else we hunt with, bows, rifles, treestand, binoculars, etc.
I guess you have to draw the line somewhere, but where?

He wouldn't have hunted had he not gotten the alerts...I doubt I ever desire cell cams personally.

Personally I'm torn on whether I'd want one or not. There's a couple deep public spots I'd love to have one just to save the couple hours of walking in and out and stinking things up. I don't even care to have them real time lol, just send them to me every 2 or 3 weeks. I'm going to hunt it the same way, the same time of the year and have the cameras on the same trees i do now more than likely but just keep me from intruding so much.
My main con is could you imaging having several on food plots or high traffic areas? Phone be dinging all day. I checked 7 cams today on 2 properties and had roughly 8000 pics in 2 weeks. I DO NOT want that many text messages, emails, etc.

I'm thinking of putting one on my road. That would be great to see someone in real time "visiting" my property. All I have to do is call the sheriff.

If you read what is posted, he used the camera to keep tabs on a deer's pattern. The big difference is he didn't have to go check the camera every day, it sent him the pictures. It says he was there opening day, bot that he waited for a text then went out. Essentially, he did what we have always done, spot deer, find pattern, hunt deer. The only thing missing seems to be the "hope he's still there" part.

I mean no reason to hate a tool just because it helped a guy kill a 165 deer that is like hating the weapon he is shooting with.

if you were sitting on the couch or even in the truck Or, wherever and you got a text saying there was a massive buck in front of your camera you would still have to sneak into a spot to kill him from and considering most people can't hunt unless it's from a tree stand my guess is half of them wouldn't ever see the buck anyway and I say buck because if it was a doe he shot no one would be blinking an eye

He wouldn't have hunted had he not gotten the alerts... He might have, but I'm sure that having pics come in daily without having to run the risk of bumping that deer gave him a whole lot more confidence that the deer might very well be there on opening day. In the end, the guy didn't break any laws, but IMO it's pushing the bounds of fair chase....

With facial recognition technology where it is, it can't be too long before a trail cam can identify a mature antlered buck and send a real time alert and pic to your phone.
Love and hate technology

No way is that hunting, it's just plain killing. A buddy's got a place where there is a feeder 100 yards from the kitchen window. He's got a couple of green motion sensor lights on the feeder so he can see what's there at night. I've been there and had sandbags for the gun on the kitchen table, with the window up and a board blocking the open area so bugs don't come in. I brought a driveway sensor and set it up so it made a noise in the cabin when there were critters at the feeder. So, you could go to sleep and if you slept with one ear open you would be woke up by the driveway sensor. Is that wrong? . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Now before you get all hot under the collar, the reason for doing so was to shoot the pigs that are coming at night and tearing up the place. They are smart, and don't show themselves during the day now, nor will they go in any of his traps.
