It became a permanent rule in 2006.... not much resistance at that time for the most part which is why the rule is still in place today.

As I recall..
The 5 year "trial" begain in 2002. It was extended in 2007 and made permanent (as permanent as can be) in 2012..

Thanks for the correction Woody, the meeting in 2006 was the second extension officially signed in 2007....forgot about that being a extension my bad!
What really matters is the OBR is here to stay thanks to many happy hunters and the IDHA.

And now we have a trophy class buck behind every bush because of it.

Curious what it was before OBR? Two bucks? My father in law says that when he first stared hunting deer you could not harvest does.

From the time I started deer hunting we we're allowed 1 antlered deer in with archery equipment and one with firearms equipment ( modern gun OR muzzleloader).
At the time the OBR was implemented the "double dippers" numbered about 2400. I believe that number would be higher now because of more hunters in the woods during archery season both because of the popularity of the sport and the inclusion of crossbows. I don't however believe it would be detrimental to the herd.

There were a couple years in there where you were allowed 2 bucks bow and 1 firearm. I recall taking a 135" 8 pt. a 130" 10 pt. with bow and a 127" 8 pt. with gun all in 10 days.... The glory days.

But detrimental to the buck herd because everyone would be trying to kill two booners I'm gonna go way out on a limb and say the majority of Indiana deer hunters are going to go their entire lives trying to kill just one Booner. I've deer hunted for just shy of 30 years and have seen 7 on the hoof that I'm sure would qualify. I still haven't killed one and will consider myself a lucky man if I ever do.

Well if they are killing 2 2 year old 10 pointers just to fill tags they probably won't.
