I'm curious to hear how often, if any, folks on here have had a CO contact in the field? In 40 years of hunting I've had one. We were dove hunting and he checked our licenses and left. When I was in law enforcement I rarely saw them except on a backup run.

Half a dozen or so, but all but one have been connected to water.
Just contact with a CO or 5 happens at least weekly.

When I lived in Illinois and hunted state land , it was weekly and 90% of the time I was harassed by the CO . saying that I didn't look like a hunter , trying to force a 4th shell in the shotgun , then finding out that i'm Italian and lived in a certain town . so I started hunting my uncles farm in Illinois , even though I would see nothing , I wasn't harassed .

Our group a few times and checked but, now he drops by to see what we have hanging. He doesn't check and he hangs out with us sometimes. He's a very nice CO guy. Have not seen CO Mr. Jackson in a couple years. Hopefully, all is good.

Probably close to a dozen times. In multiple states. Both hunting and fishing. In Wyoming we were camped waaayyyy off the beaten path, it was a 60 mile drive on gravel roads to get to where we were. The CO checked us in camp and he was on horseback.

I live in Bedford, a couple years ago I got checked in Greybull Wyoming by a warden who had lived in Oolitic for awhile. Oolitic is basically on the outskirts of Bedford. Small world.
I get checked pretty frequently around home, but so far only when I've been night hunting.

Many many times. Mainly while duck hunting or fishing. Only infraction was a stray lead shell in my waterfowl bag...no clue where it came from but no disputes.
Duck hunters have so many rules I think they are easy pickings. Boaters are easy too.

I get checked or at least have a conversation with a CO almost every trip out of state. Very seldom at home, but probably because we hunt together.

It should be open soon.

I've only been contacted twice. Once in a boat when I was young and once at my house a few years back.

Five I can recall in about 25 years of hunting and fishing. All positive interactions. ICO are the best of the best.
-pulled over spotlighting night before firearms season -fishing license check -fishing license check -checked license turkey hunting -trapping license check

I do not lnow how meny. Probbly 2 dozen. On water fishing. Private land hunting. Water goose hunting. Publicly land deer hunting. Only one waa negative. I had an officer try to find some thing wrong one time after comming in from goose hunting I mean any thing. Checked boat trailer and plate, registration for boat, shells, life jackets, lights, hunting license and stamps with signature, plates on truck and registrations electrical hookup from truck to boat, plug in gun and only hold 3 shells. You name it he checked it and was kind of a jerk about it too.
It was a smallish lake and found out he hunted it so i guess he did not like me being there when he was at work. I was 100% leagle so i was not worried but some time mistakes happen. Just glad that was not one of the times.

I never minded the CO. It was the local police that have been an issue for me. We hunted White River in Anderson and had cops check us many times. Once with weapons drawn.
Another time I was hunting a borrow pit off 69 near Pendleton and walking back to my car. Bag of decoys on my back, gun in my arms and 2 geese in my hands. I see a car next to mine and a person in the glove passenger side of my car. I was not sneaking or close to it but the guy never heard or saw me. I could tell it was a pendleton cop so I made him aware of my pressence. He was looking through my glove box so I asked if he found what he was looking for. He claimed he was making sure the car was not stolen or no issues. I said nope we are all good. He then told me to not hunt that spot any more. I told him that is up to me and the land owner. It was weird. I didnt have anything to hide but figured he could run my plates to figure out who I was and if the car was involved in illegal activities.
The rest were good checks. But we began calling dispatch to let them know we would be hunting too.

He would stop in at my friends farm on the Gun Opening Saturday around 8:30-9pm about every other year since 1987 or so. There are 4 farms that our group hunts and we meet every year. Great times . Over the years I enjoy the get together as much as not more than the hunt. Won't trade either one.

I'll be in contact with 50+ here in two weeks. It will be a fantastic time with great food, wonderful fellowship, and lots of happy people taking guns home. Does that count? :-)
