For those that have success what kind of grunts do you make? Single short Multiple short with little pause Single long Multiple long Or I have called bucks in before and if I recall it was multiple short with a long note at the end. But always feel awkward blowing a grunt tube.

I've done what you did with short grunts the next long grunt, only when I see a buck. I never blind call.

I mean i think i sound like a deer... might just be a different dialect i'm using. Eager to read the advice of others on this post.

I found out Saturday that it's a bad idea to grunt at a buck if it's too open. He just looked my way and then turned around when he saw no deer. He's a 3 yo. Smaller buck may be more curious. He was also near a doe. I think it's also a good idea to start with soft grunts. I was surprised at how soft a chasing buck grunted before he got louder. Try and aim the sound down and away from the deer or into a thicket.

I have had better luck using doe bleats than buck grunts.

The best I've had is blending both doe bleats with low grunts (long), then rattle hard and follow with two short grunts. Best to rattle on the ground and make a lot of leaves-brush noise. I have climbed down in late morning do the routine and go back up the tree and 10 minutes later here he comes. Never a big one. Mostly 2 year old's.

I never call at a deer I can see. Figure if I can see him they are certainly able to peg me. Now maybe a deer on a mission I will try to call to but never if I think there is a chance it is coming my way.

I don't grunt at a buck if he has a doe. He'll most likely push her in the opposite direction to get away from the unseen buck.

What grunt calls are you guys using if you don't mind saying? I got my first one recently from Hank's Game Calls in NC because I like their turkey pot calls. Can't seem to get any different sounds even if I move the O ring on the seating reed assembly. There are six places for the O ring but they all sound the same. Must be me??

Eager to read the advice of others on this post. By the way - Happy Birthday. Cool to get a deer on your birthday Ey thanks. For the last few years I've been able to hunt on my Birthday, Marine Corps Birthday (Nov 10th) and Veteran's Day... just couldn't break away from work today BUT will be taking Wednesday-Friday off to hopefully have an encounter with Mr. Big.

A buck that is amped up is going to respond to about anything that sounds like another buck. I use an older flextone, the short black tube with fawn, doe, buck places to push on tube. It makes about any sound I need.
