After years of looking I finally got internet. Probably 12 years ago I had EarthLink Dial up service. That lasted about 2 months. Too slow and not paitent enough. Even though I had Dish Network they still were unable to offer internet service. A few months ago I seen a red light flashing a couple miles from my house and discovered that a local provider had heightened his tower. Called yesterday and installed this morning. My wife had bought 2 fire sticks (1 for the bedroom and one for the man cave) and we already have a smart TV in the living room. Bye bye dish Network and hello WiFi. Going to save us about $50 a month. The amount I pay every month for dish was enough to cover the installation, first month fee and router set up.

We have hotspots but once those reach the limits you might as well not even use them any more because they are so slow. Limits are reached quickly with kids homework and me working from home two days a week. There is quite a bit of brown county that has no internet access.

Dave, my youngest son works in the installation of communication towers and all technology that goes on them. He says the technology is there. Just cost money to do it.

I don't know if anything will ever come of it, but it just passed in the last few months that electric cooperatives could run fiber for internet on their power lines. Rural internet options are a struggle in many places.

I'm getting internet via the cable provider, and I have a WiFi modem in the house so I can use the laptop downstairs if I want. The desktop is hooked up to the cable.
Even though I can see a tower a mile away, I have no idea what it's for. Cell phone signal sucks big time here, without a booster in the house I'm lucky to be able to send text messages, let alone have a strong enough signal to actually talk on the cell phone. That's why I have a land line in the house. I have no choice.

Reviving an old thread. We finally had internet installed today. After 8 months of fighting ATT we finally got it. I had given up totally two different times and then something would happen where I'd try again. It isn't very fast right now, but the installer said I can double the speed without any issues and we have a strong signal. I'm just going to be satisfied with what we have now, that is until our electric company gets their lines ran here in the next two years. Then I'm jumping right over to them.

Cool! The proliferation of those towers, sped by the popularity of smartphones, has really changed the landscape for rural internet. For a while the one drawback of rural living was no hi-speed. The only thing you could get was satellite services that were a million bucks a month.
I have the misfortune to live by the highway, but at least I do have access to fiberoptic based hi-speed.

Have you guys tried HughesNet? They put up a personal dish for you that's just for internet, not TV too. For years we were using CenturyLink since we already had a landline phone. Their WIFI service raised our bill about $60 a month and it was real slow at times. The maximum speed for here is 1.5 Mbps but whenever I did a speed test I only got 500 Kbps at the most, usually more like 1-200 Kbps. I called HughesNet and they installed it in a couple of days. They pretty much guarantee at least 15 Mbps even though their service is 25 Mbps. Every time I've done a speed test it's been closer to 30 Mbps. It's only about $20 more than CenturyLink at $75-80 but since I dropped both the landline and internet with CenturyLink it's dropping my payments by about $35. They're suppose to service about anywhere, maybe you guys should give them a call. Plus if you let them know I sent you I could save $50 on my next bill . I got them through Fast Rural Internet which is their Affiliate at (888) 877-6101. HughesNet Customer Service is (866)347-3272. Believe me,I was shocked at how much faster their service was over CenturyLink's,I love it.

You are literally the first positive review I’ve heard of for satellite internet. I refuse to get them and will just stick with what we just got and wait for better options to come along.

ATT can be hard to deal with... it took me almost 2 years to get U-verse service when it first came out. They sold it to me but there was no lines in my area that carried it.
