She is warming up for that final song.
Going out today for what I am sure will be the last open water day of duck hunting since I never hunt on Christmas because I believe in "PEACE ON EARTH".
The weather is going into the tank with as much as 7"-9" of snow and single digit temps at night starting today.
This was a pretty good season for me and I am not complaining.
We still have a month and a half of goose season and that has historically always been fun.

We are still working on them this morning. Not as well as yesterday. But still getting it done.

We are trying to rig up a homemade ice eater to try to keep the water open this week. Talking single digit lows and highs only in the 20s here. Field hunting here in Ohio Tuesday morning.

Went out yesterday and had a heck of a day. They were in the air non stop from 1-330. Shot a goose and two ducks. Lost one duck as it dropped into a field of tall grass and thorns. Looked for it for 45 minutes then gave up. Need a dog next time

Took the dog out for a run to the pond and to my surprise most of it did not freeze.......yet.
And yes there were ducks out there.

We got a couple ducks off monroe today. Pretty sparce They were all hanging out at Stillwater. Tons of ducks and geese in there Monday/Tuesday. |

I hunted Stillwater Sat. There were more ducks than I had seen in several years and the litterally showed up over night. Including several pintail. We managed 6 but was amazing how tough true migratory birds are. Dropped two on the blind with 3 1/2 and dog still had to chase down. However they were mostly gone as fast as they showed. Likely in Alabama by now.

Yeah I saw a ton of pintail. There was even a pair of wood ducks...guess they didn't get the memo that they should have left a long time ago. I only saw one small spot that the birds managed to keep open by Wednesday afternoon.

I hunted there a few years ago when it was 4 degrees that day. we had a reserve and was determined. We managed 7 that day and I was able to retrieve them by walking on the ice as we had the only open hole. Only problem was when you fell thru it was a nightmare to get out of a hole with waders. I saw a woody fly by 9 last weekend too.
