How long can you keep a freshly killed turkey in a cooler with ice before pluking it?

I always skin mine. Old timer I knew would get big pot boiling water and do em just like he did chickens whack em then pluck

Haven't plucked but one. Always skin mine and still make a huge mess.

I skinned my last one and smoked the breast. I want to deep fry this one. So pluking is the way to go.

I pluck mine. I usually have them iced in a cooker, so the bird is cold. They don't pluck well cold. Get a big pot of hot (say 160-180 degrees, don't need it boiling) water and give them a good dunk for 30 seconds or so and go to plucking. It doesn't make a mess this way as the feathers clump together. Takes just a few minutes to pluck the whole bird clean.
