waynes I hope you can find a queen soon or the queen eggs hatch soon, I'm sure your on pins and needles. hopefully they established enough to get thru this. keep us updated. Now the supersede cells are located towards the middle of the frame correct ? I will be getting into mine later this week to get ready for the next step. waynes I hope you can find a queen soon or the queen eggs hatch soon, I'm sure your on pins and needles. hopefully they established enough to get thru this. keep us updated. Now the supersede cells are located towards the middle of the frame correct ? I will be getting into mine later this week to get ready for the next step. Yes, the cells are in the middle and all are capped. I plan to check them Wednesday after the cold cloudy rainy weather. Three or four of them looked very good. I guess the good news is the learning of the 1st year. I get to see the best of queens and the worst of no queen. Worst case the virgin queen doesn't make it back. If so, I will add those remaining bees to the strong #1 hive. Note: I'm am getting to get a queen next month. I need to catch or find a swarm. Hive #1 is the orange painted box and Hive #2 is the flowhive brown box.

Change of plans after talking to an experience beekeeper. The 6 or 7 emergency queen cells are on two frames. I'm going to take one of the two out and put in a separate 4 frames in the same 10 frame box. Last Friday evening I put in a 3/4" plywood divider. I did this to cut in half the area needed to be heated. I will shake in one frame of nurse bees from Hive #1 on the split half. Both halves of Hive #2 will have two full frames of bees and emergency queen cells. Increase my odds that one of two queens make it back to their hives. One side will have a total of 5 frames and other 4 frames. The divider takes up the 10th frame. Each will have the queen cell frame, a food frame and enough bees to cover two frames.

Sounds like you have a plan together, wishing the best for you. Good luck.

I checked yesterday after work and the 3 or 4 good emergency queen cells where gone. I could see where they were, but little sign left. She must have emerged and they already tore down the old cells. I checked this out in my bee book and seems right. I didn't look for the virgin queen, but the bees quieted down and acting more normal. Since it was cool I closed it back up. Thursday I'll take a good look.

Dale.....Did you know you had a swarm coming up ? or do you keep a box ready for a swarm ? I heard the lemon oil was a good idea for swarms when they are looking. Was the swarm from your boxes or a wild swarm ? Thanks George

This past Saturday I received a great text. Gaiser Bees offered me a 2018 queen for free. One of their nuc customers didn't want last years queen. Picked the queen up in the late morning and hive #2 (Chuck) acted like they accepted her. Plan to check on the 1st. Hopefully, I see new eggs and larvae. The temperament of the hive is a lot better. That's a good sign!

I found the queen Saturday and the bees removed the last little bit of red off the queen. Harder to find. Looks like hive #2 Chuck is finally on it's way. One frame looked good. Already a few caped. Since all the other frames are resources frames I put a new foundation frame next to the brood frame. Bad new, not many bees left and no option to take some from another since this is my 1st year. Maybe the Lord will bless me with a large warm catch.

I'm already getting ready for next spring. Build broad boxes and supers. Need to put a couple coats of paint and make about 80 super and 20 deep frames this fall-winter. Also plan on buying 5-10 cardboard nuc boxes. Plan on producing my own queens next spring. Planning on having 6-8 hives next year. I have one swarm box and would like to have a few more for next year. My winter project.

Went to Lowes the other day and found a gallon of exterior paint with primer marked down to $7. Looks like some boxes will be that military green (little left) and the new light orange brown color. Can't beat Lowes mess ups. Didn't care that much on the color.

I didn't tell you, but I don't have a local mentor anymore. My best friend back in February moved his operation down to Alabama. Going full time and commercial. He gets me going and leaves me hanging dry. That's okay. Where Danny G Bees is located the cell reception is bad. He gets back with answers within a couple weeks. Maybe next year I'll have time to visit his operations.

Waynes.... I dont any reverence on the color, I love it all !
Your mentor must have a lot of hives to be going commercial. Is he concentrate on honey, hive box's or raising queens ?
