I would think modern and correct safety gear for this sport should keep this type of injury at bay for the most part. The problem is that the helmets are, well fits good enough. Most are used year after year. If and it's a big if he plays, he'll have a custom helmet made. Every year he's played there are several kids that suffer concussions on his team. I think proper hitting techniques aren't a major point that is taught.

Doesn't the school have a concussion protocol they follow once a injury has been found?
I would think they would be highly involved in these type of injuries. And find ways to prevent them in the future.

Update. He should be coming home tomorrow. They are going to give him meds to try to control any swelling before they make the leap to surgery. So that's good news. Bad news. My father in law borrowed my truck. It's sitting on I69 right now with a blown engine. How that happened, idk. I know it's the one and only lifted truck with a hemi he's ever driven. I also know it's the last. At least of mine.

And find ways to prevent them in the future. Yes they have a concussion protocol. Do they follow it? I guess to some degree. I'd reckon they'd have to watch the kids more closely to catch it as he isn't the first to be diagnosed with one days later. Highly invloved, no. Take the test and get back in the field as quickly as possible. Spent more time trying to recruit kids to play today then they did checking up on their players.

Normally I like blown hemis, but I think you mean blown the other way. That sucks.
Good to hear that your boy is coming home.

Towed to local shop up there. To decide on a rebuilt and what to go with.

Pretty much truck runs perfect, go to start it up, drive a bit and truck loses power and stops and you have an oil mess. It's a big enough issue that class action is being thrown around. Looks like Chrysler has known about the problem for awhile. Do some research on rebuilt hemis and all say that the valve seat problem is fixed on the rebuilt.

In my opinion, no, not worth the risk anymore. My best friend was the biggest chest thumping meat-head on the team when we were in high school. He now has three sons and will not allow them to play football. I still have an occasional sore knee from 1991.
I have said many times recently that football as we know it will not last another 30 years. Athletes keep getting bigger and faster. When two bodies collide, something has to give.

Without major rule changes the sport is in trouble for the reasons you state. The helmet rule (the new one) is an officiating disaster but may be still part of the answer. It is odd to see the growth of a professional flag football league. Is that the future? Doubt it but it does indicate a trend. Football as a sport is broken. Given the level of scientific knowledge of materials and physiology why haven't there been significant advancements in helmet technology? I noticed the post on the $950 helmets. That is chump change for the NFL

Absolute quickest diagnosis I've ever had taking a vehicle to the shop. Looked under it and said, well you have a hole the size of an orange through the side of the block. Pretty sure jb weld ain't fixing that. Waiting on estimate

That is chump change for the NFL Bet if the NFL went to manufacturer and said they wanted them made for all high school football teams they could get it alot cheaper.

Something significant had to break in there, and then get smashed through the block to make a hole like that.

I think you need one of those Hellcat Hemi motors next. It'll get you to your hunting spots and back in a hurry.

I think you need one of those Hellcat Hemi motors next. It'll get you to your hunting spots and back in a hurry. I know, right. Brought it up to the wife. She nixed the idea REAL quick. They say you can't put a price on happiness. Wife sets that price south of $16,000 obviously.
