Can't believe it's been this many years. I suppose there will be kids graduating this year that hadn't been born yet.
I was driving home from working late when I turned on the radio and noticed a different tone on the Bob and Tom show. Tom said ..."a second plane has hit the WTC..."
I didn't know there had been a first plane. I gave the Jeep Cherokee that I would drive another 15 years more gas than usual and got home in a hurry.
Never forget.

I was sitting at my desk/computer at work at Delta Faucet. A fellow Engineer comes into my office with a panicked look on her face, "A plane just crashed into the world trade center!" I thought she meant a small plane...."What? So? A small plane isn't going to do that much damage?" "No, a big plane, an airliner!" and she rushed out. That was when the first one hit. By the time I got to the interwebs and the like, the second one had hit and the other reports about the pentagon and the like started coming in. When the "terrorist attack" started being used, I called the wife to check the kids (in school). Everybody was shaken and watching, but otherwise fine.
Probably one of the most memorable events in my life as far as some sort of public event is concerned (I was too young (3) when Elvis died!).

I was driving a forklift in a warehouse. When the news started coming across the radios everyone stopped working and gathered around to listen. Management sent us home early and gave us the next day off.

Home after working 3rd shift. I actually had to go help my brother find a couple geese he had dropped into some high cattails.

I was in middle school. They wouldn't tell us what happened though. Teachers were bawling and carrying on, but had been instructed not to tell any students what was happening. There were all kinds of crazy rumors going around, had no idea what really happened until I got home that night.

I had just woke up before the alarm clock went off, worked second shift 3-11pm, and instead of going out to work on building my house I turned the TV on. I never watch TV in the mornings so why did I do it that day? The first plane had hit and we were trying to figure out ,who what when where and why, did this happen. Then seen the 2nd plane hit. Our jaws hit the floor.

I was lifting weights at Daves Gym in South Bend. They turned the tv up and we gathered around. I was standing there with a cop friend when the 2nd plane hit, realizing then it wasnt an accident. I remember him saying somebody is going to pay dearly. What a panic it was wondering how many other planes could be in the air waiting to do the same. That was the downfall when I started listening to talk radio. Lol

At work in Manchester, NH, pretty close to the airport. Co-worker said a plane hit the tower. I had the same thought, no big deal some small plane had an accident. Then it all went down hill from there. I bugged out for home as soon as I saw this was no series of accidents. I didn't want to be anywhere near that airport.

I was on my PC emailing back and forth with a hunting group when one posted about a plane hitting the WTC.
We all thought a small private plane until the second one hit.
I went and turned on the TV and started watching it unfold. My wife came into the living room and asked why I had the TV on so early? I pointed at the TV and told her what happened. We watched it the rest of the day.
My old hunting buddy John Trout Jr and his wife Vicki was in the air flying to Idaho for a bear hunt, His plane was directed to land at Kansas City, well short of their designation. Planes were grounded after that and John rented a vehicle and drive the rest of the way to Idaho.
A sad day in our history, but we did come together then. Tradgedy does bring out the best in people.

I was in college at Indiana State, I get a frantic phone call from my mother that morning as I didn't have class that day. She said "We are under attack, they are attacking us". I asked her what she was talking about as she over exaggerates nearly everything. I turned on the TV and she was right and no exaggerating that time.
I think the fact that I was in college was the only thing keeping me from enlisting that very day, as I gave it quite a bit of thought.
I still get emotional/angry some times when I think about 9/11.

working for IDEM, loading my truck for a week of sampling. Heard it on sports radio first. Spent the ride up to Freemont listening to the radio. Seeing gas prices go sky high and lines to get it.
Got to hotel and watched the footage.
Woke up in the morning to eat breakfast and a renunion for WWII vets were staying in same hotel. One of the ladies looked at my coworker and I and said..."ok boys, what are you going to do about it? We did our part!"
That was sureal to me, very humbling. My coworker was a vietnam vet...he told her been there done that. I was 26 and honestly not sure what I was going to do.

The no fly days to follow was another thing I recall. Goose hunting I realized how much quieter it was without planes...very vividly.
