Let it fly! Even scent control nuts like Jeff Sturgis agree. The first buck I harvested (metro-Dale, 1990) was during taking a leak. I had to pause, grab my gun and shoot, finish peeing. A few years ago I HAD to climb down for a #2. Left me say that if I am willing to do that, It’s about 30 seconds from disaster. I assumed my hunt was ruined except for the possibility of a spooked deer passing through. Not but a few minutes after settling back in the tree, a deer (don’t remember what it was)walked righ by the unfortunate log and I shot it. Go figure. That was a whiz-bang situation .

Up until about 2012, I used a bottle. One day I had forgotten my bottle and I didn't want to pour out my full water bottle just to pee in it. Someone had told me they whizzed in a sandwich bag before and would put it at the back of their stand platform until they got down. Therefore, on that day, I had an empty sandwich Ziplock. Let me tell ya, trying to fill and seal a baggie while wearing several layers is no easy feat. I then placed it on my platform behind my feet next to the tree. All was fine and well... until I moved in the stand the next time. You see the platform flexed just enough for the "whiz bag" to topple end over end off of the stand. I was left watching this " whiz bomb" burst with a thud and spray all over the ground under my stand. 20 min later a big doe came within 20 yards and had no idea I was in the world. Not much wind that day as I recall. She never got in one of my openings for a bow shot. But, was in sight for 15 min or so. No more bottles for this guy. The #2 in the woods is another story for another day.

I just hate when you are way away from any toilet and you need to take dump. Now that's an issue if no tp with you and you are sick. It was 30 years ago opening day of gun season and I was sick. Stomach flu or something. It was bad, fever and all. I stuck it out and went out, can't miss opening day. I went to nearest stand about 200 yards away. Just off the road. Will around 9am I ran back to the house. Here it goes stomach and dump putting it nicely. Got out hundred yards from house and a big 8 buck stares me down. I was in a pickle. Buck was in my way. So after a few seconds the buck charged me. I had to shoot on self defense. Doe was bedded down a couple feet from me. I dropped and the buck dropped after the shot. I didn't care at that point. Went to the house, cleaned up, took shower, changed cloths and went to bed. Left my gun, buck and my mess there on the road. Guys came in at dark and woke me up. They couldn't believe my story or luck. So you never know, happens! True story. I did feel better the next morning.

Having a bad knee, I gave up on climbing stands, but while on the ground have popped a deer while taking a whiz, and another while pants down around my ankles for a dump. One has to be flexible at times.

Obviously, we need a "poop or not to poop" poll as well. Just saying. 🙄

I've never been really concerned about #1 in the woods. It's no problem at all if you're still hunting and I did that quite a bit when I got into hunting. The last 20 years has been a lot more stand hunting and early on in that I had a doe come in from upwind of my stand, and walked right by my #1 landing zone. She never alerted until she got downwind. Since that day I've never had a second thought about #1 from the stand.
#2 is a different story, although I don't really have any evidence to support that it spooks deer. I just move off in a downwind direction and take care of business.

If I have to in an emergency I'll let it fly but if I can hold it or have a bottle I save it back for fleshing up mock scrapes by mixing it with real deer urine lure, it makes the deer lure last a lot longer.

I rough up the ground by the base of my tree and just aim for that when I out of my stand not gonna lie. I don't know if kicking up leaves helps or anything but it brings me peace of mind which is worth something right? lmao
