3 of us at Lincoln and only came home with 1 deer. Very thick , so the deer that were seen didn't offer shot opportunities . Between us we saw 7 deer and the one that was shot was a 15 yd. shot. Probably didn't need a hunt there this year. Last we heard there were 21 killed 1st day and 4 the 2nd day from talking to a guy at the gate. This was not an official total but probably very close .

Versailles isn’t nearly what it used to be. Those first years of allowing hunters were incredible. Word got out, been down hill since.

I’ll be there the second hunt. Have they removed any of the invasive underbrush yet? Last I had talked to someone they were working on it. They sprayed a huge section of roadside by the pool last year. But only one side of the road. 🤔 much of that connecting road is reclaimed fields-- a wilderness of autumn olive and Japanese honeysuckle. Some of the wooded areas are very nice though. Did you hear what the total number of hunters and deer killed were?

When Charlestown state park had their very first hunt 2 of my friends and I were some of the lucky ones drawn. We all hunted till about 11 and we each killed 1 buck and 2 does. What a sight the 3 of us driving out of the park in my buds ford ranger with 9 deer in the back of it. One of the easiest hunts ever. As a matter of fact my one friend shot all 3 of his deer at first light, he said after he shot one the next stepped up in line. Lol Anyways now you hear the same thing……hardly ever see deer there anymore. It’s sad. Wish it was like the old days.

I drew a blank on all reserved hunts this year. Even though I killed one of my biggest bucks ever at Turkey Run, Shades is my favorite. Deer in there are FAR FROM overpopulated. People who say "State Park hunts are like shooting tame deer" CLEARLY have not hunted a park lately.

I think what happened to the state parks is happening to some counties. The liberal number of does the past 10 years have taken a toll on the herd. The growing number of predator's (yotes and cats) has added to the decline. Switzerland county is nothing like it was 10 years ago. I read once that a doe I think 4 years is 27 deer. There is some math 1-2-4-8-16 with some loss calculation.

Clearly he avoided hunters there for a few years.

State Parks are not managed to make deer hunter's lives easy. Deer hunters are a tool State Parks use to help manage the flora within the park. Now if they just has as efficient and effective system to control the invasive flora within the Parks.

Anyone going to Ft Harrison I didn't see this before the hunt. I went with 2 buddies. One buddy didn't see any deer, the other saw a nice buck and 5-6 does. He missed two different does. I hit a doe, but lost blood after 500 yards. I think I got all muscle. I hate it when that happens. I ended up seeing 4-6 does and 2 bucks. I was fortunate enough to shoot the second buck. A small bodied 7 pointer. Dressed and without head weighed 99 pounds. At check in we were told there were 63 hunters signed as of 6am Monday. When we checked my deer at 3 Tuesday 36 deer had been checked in. We were drawn for the late hunt too so we'll be back in 2 weeks.

That’s not a bad count considering how thick it is. Thanks for the info!!

I tried to put in for the State Park hunt this year during the draw session. The options never showed up for me. Anyone aware of why that may be?

At this point I don't remember the exact date but it was within the dates set on the website. I could see the military hunts but not the state parks.

I don’t remember this year but in years past they would put out the military/refuge draws out first then afterwards (weeks?) came the SP draws. Just had to either be on the emailing list for notifications or keep checking back.
