Just read a headline that Putin raised his "nuclear deterrent team" to "special combat readiness" status. I am concerned that since the invasion isn't quite going as he expected he'll do something really stupid next. It's just him posturing

I saw some speculation that Putin maybe lost it? Let's hope not I've been wondering if maybe the cheese slid off his cracker... mostly because what he's doing makes no sense. He has consolidated power. He has free reign to implement whatever economic program he wants, to run his pipelines anywhere he wanted, ( Biden was accommodating if anything ) etc. collecting sanctions does not aid him in this. Although he claims to fret about being threatened by the U.S. and NATO, that's really pretty silly, as neither ever attacked the Soviet Union* and if they were going to, it probably would have been in 1991, when the S.U. had collapsed. Ukraine was no threat to him. A costly, almost certainly disasterous invasion that--even if successful-- would only result in a shattered and now dependent drain being added to a Russian Federation that is not ready for it. So NONE of this makes any sense. * Although the Soviet Union was not formed officially until 1922, 5000 American troops did invade Russia in 1918 to support the White Russians, a fact that Americans might have forgotten, while the Rooskies did not. *

The thinking is that he left the internet up because he thought he could take the capital quickly and it would be easier to get a puppet govt up and running.
