I can’t tell if it’s a possum or a armadillo. Southern Indiana, Perry county.

Snapping turtle. Mating season You might be right. We have a pond close and we’ve had some huge snapper’s over the years.

Looks like it has ears to me, so I’m saying not turtle. Sure dang looks like an armadillo, but hard to tell. I saw one dead on 65 just south of Columbus years ago.

Found this article. Might be an Armadillo
Armadillos have settled into southern Illinois, Indiana, Kansas and Missouri - all areas that were "totally unexpected," McDonough said.

I'm saying possum. I live in Posey, not saying they're not here but I haven't seen any armadillos in my neck of the woods yet.

The shine off the top also has me saying armadillo. An opossum wouldn’t have a glare like that.

My money is on opossum. No lines on the back and armadillos tails are decently sized at the base. Also I think the glare on the back is just the whitish underfur coming through.

Okay, think I’ve solved the question: is this a armadillo?. Answer is no. These pictures are from the other day, looks like a opossum to me.
