Have you tried and impact driver with a bit that fits inside that? I have not tried an impact. I didn't want to dig everything out. Most of what I tried was next to where I was working. Next go around I will get the plug out 1 way or another. I will have a new plug to replace it as it is in no shape to be put back in service.

It does dissipate heat fast. I was surprised how fast it had cooled. I will lay it to it and if all else fails I will weld a bolt in there and go from there.
Should have been an easy job....lol. say that every time

Stick a punch or extension in there and whack it hard to shock the threads. I have square tapered easy outs for pipe plugs like that. Map gas is so so. Need oxy-acetelyne to make cherry red, then quench as said. Its tapered threads, so one crack loose and your home free. If you were only in Hudson Lake... lol. ×2 on the map gas. Get it glowing red hot,if it doesn't come out, get it glowing again and quench it. Steam will do amazing things.

If you have a compressor, I have a gun that will get it out. That or just bring it over here and we'll get it out

How will a new cover help? The fill plug is on the housing, not the cover? Ok…. I assume it was on the cover Ditto

Can you purchase a replacement differential cover with a built in fill plug?

Worst case scenario drill it out. Harbor Freight has pipe taps. Might as well have the diff cover off and a new one too, the lube inside will be toast/contaminated with metal shavings.

Pull your diff cover off. Get a pipe coupling and a plug to fit. Drill a hole in the diff cover and weld the fitting to the cover. If you want a drain cut the coupling in half and get it as low as you can. Wire brush and paint it.

When I check for my vehicle it does not come with a fill plug that fits my car. Not sure why they wouldn't put a fill put on the cover.

Older Chrysler products such as Ramchargers had a rubber pop-in plug.

SO! are we still driving around with a rust shut gear lube plug?? Yeah...waiting on the replacement plug to show up. I will remove the current 1 but it will be in no shape to return. I run in waves. Been >2 weeks since fishing monroe....but I want to get this done before my son starts driving. He turns 16 tomorrow so by Thanksgiving he will have his dl. Then I will lose my backup vehicle...not really but I am ready to no run him around!
